Shubman Gill on Monday took a beauty of a catch at Galle International Stadium to dismiss Kamindu Mendis off Kuldeep Yadav in the first Test of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka. The catch was so good by Gill that it would surely go down as one of the best catches of this calendar year.
It was Day 3 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka, and Mendis, batting on 14 off 25 balls, chipped Kuldeep’s full-length delivery outside off stump towards extra cover. Gill leapt full-length to his left, and made an outrageous attempt, which eventually gave him success with one hand.
Gill’s efforts reminded fans of the DC Comics character Superman, who flies like no other in the fantasy world.
Shubman Gill Delighted After Kamindu Mendis' Catch
Shubman Gill, rightly so, was pumped up in sheer joy after the catch, as it was a spectacular effort from India’s Test captain to get rid of Kamindu, who was in sheer disbelief along with other Sri Lanka fans.

In the process, Sri Lanka were reduced to 59/4 in the second innings, with Nishan Madushka, Lahiru Udara and Dinesh Chandimal already returning to the pavilion before Kamindu's departure.

Who Has More Catches Among Indians Across Formats?
Nevertheless, Gill is still relatively young in this format. In terms of catch-taking leaders among Indians, Virat Kohli has 344 catches (so far) after 562 matches across all three formats.
He is followed by Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar in the chart.

Now, time will tell how long Gill can go from here on. Whoever stays at the top of the chart among Indians has proven again and again to be there among regulars.
If Shubman Gill wants to be there in order to shatter all the records, he must perform and keep raising the bar.
