CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has fired a warning shot to all rival franchises ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Yet to lift an IPL title since the 2023 edition of the tournament, the skipper has vowed to expand the franchise’s trophy-cabinet with yet another silverware this year.

It is worth noting that Gaikwad was appointed as CSK captain prior to the IPL 2024 season after legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni stepped down from the high-profile role. Under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK won the IPL 2023 season by defeating then defending champions Gujarat Titans in a high-octane final.

Ruturaj Gaikwad vows to bring another IPL trophy home for CSK

While speaking during a CSK event on March 6, team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad vowed to end the three-year trophy-drought for the franchise. Firing a warning shot to all rival franchises, the Maharashtra batter said that his team will be going in IPL 2026 with an intention of bagging its sixth IPL silverware.

He said, “We will be going for sixth title.”

CSK’s history with IPL titles

The CSK franchise is the joint-most successful IPL team alongside Mumbai Indians with five IPL trophies. Incidentally, the team won all five IPL titles under the charismatic leadership of former Indian wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni.

The team won the 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021 editions of the tournament, before eclipsing defending champions Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller of IPL 2023 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Despite lifting the 2023 trophy, captain MS Dhoni confirmed that he will be stepping down from his leadership role ahead of the following season in favor of rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Under the leadership of Gaikwad, the team finished fifth on the points table in IPL 2024. However, the following year in 2025 under the guidance of both Gaikwad and MS Dhoni, the franchise finished at the bottom of the 10-team standings with just four wins and 10 defeats from 14 matches.

CSK gearing up for IPL 2026

Several CSK players like MS Dhoni as well as Ruturaj Gaikwad recently took part in a pre-season training camp for IPL 2026. Late last year, the franchise retained several star attractions like Dhoni, Gaikwad, rising star Ayush Mhatre, hard-hitting South African Dewald Brevis, Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube among several others.

The team management also roped in Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals in exchange for legendary all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. On the day of the IPL 2026 auction last December, the franchise acquired Matt Henry, Rahul Chahar, Matthew Short and other local as well as international stars. Here is a look at the entire CSK squad for the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
