MS Dhoni may have an unconventional keeping method, but that has made him world famous. There is a famous saying that when MSD is behind the stumps, just donโ€™t leave your crease. He is lightning quick with his glovework, and has swift reflexes which makes him the best in the business.

Whenever an Indian keeper performs well- takes a sharp catch, or does a brilliant stumping, he instantly gets compared with MS Dhoni, as the former Indian skipper has set a high bar. This is exactly what CSK skipper, Sanju Samson did in the IPL 2026 match vs Gujarat Titans.

Samson channels inner MS Dhoni to dismiss Shubman Gill

Samson is a brilliant keeper, but he is known more for his catches, rather than stumpings. However, in a tense situation against the Titans, Samson channeled his inner MSD to inflict a lightning-quick stumping that dismissed Shubman Gill.

Noor Ahmad bowled a leg-break ball, but it drifted down the leg side as Gill missed his attempted flick shot. Samson swiftly moved to his left as he collected the ball, and in the blink of an eye, he knocked over the bails.

Initially, it looked like Gill had made his ground, but replays showcased that his back leg was in the air, and Samson had done the impossible in the fraction of a second to dismiss the GT skipper, who was taking the game away from CSK.

This was a tribute to MSD, as the former CSK captain was known for his excellent glovework behind the stumps, and time and again, he has inflicted such dismissals.

Sanju Samson to replace MS Dhoni as CSK's long-term keeper

CSK went all out to acquire the services of Sanju Samson before the IPL 2026 season. The former IPL winners traded him from the Rajasthan Royals, and there was a good reason why the franchise wanted Samson in their squad.

Samson, 31, is relatively younger and can easily play for the franchise for the next 5-6 years. MSD is 44, and with injuries taking a toll on his body, the IPL 2026 could be his last campaign.

In MSDโ€™s absence, Samson has been keeping in IPL 2026, and he was always CSKโ€™s long-term prospect to replace MS Dhoni in the squad. Just like โ€˜Thalaโ€™, he can lead the team in the future, and will be the leader behind the stumps as well.
