India began its preparations for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka with a three-day practice game against the Sri Lanka-XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on August 7.

However, the visitors found it difficult to take early wickets as SL XI openers Ravindu Rasantha and Nishan Madushka put together a confident opening partnership.

Madushka looked in excellent touch from the beginning and reached his half-century in just 52 balls. He continued to attack the Indian bowlers and scored 66 runs off 65 balls before his innings came to an unexpected end.

The dismissal also drew attention because of an unusual mistake by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, which was quickly corrected by KL Rahul.

Rishabh Pant’s Brain Faded Moment In IND vs SL-XI Test

Rishabh Pant's brain fade incident took place in the fourth ball of the 20th over when Nishan Madushka pushed a full delivery towards the right of Yashasvi Jaiswal at extra cover and immediately called for a single.

However, Ravindu Rasantha was watching the ball and did not respond quickly. Both batters eventually ended up at the same end, leaving Madushka stranded halfway through the run.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reacted quickly and threw the ball towards Manav Suthar, who collected it cleanly before throwing it in an attempt to complete the run-out. The throw, however, sailed above Rishabh Pant.

In a surprising moment, Rishabh Pant removed the bails with his gloves even before he had collected the ball. According to the laws of cricket, the wicketkeeper must have the ball in hand or glove while breaking the stumps for a valid run-out.

Fortunately for India, KL Rahul was positioned at first slip. He collected the ball immediately after it passed Pant and walked up to the stumps before removing the bails with the ball in his hand.

Madushka's knock of 66 from 65 balls finally came to an end, giving India their first wicket of the game.

Indian Bowlers Under Pressure In The IND vs SL-XI

India faced a difficult first session against SL-XI as the hosts reached 138/1 at lunch on Day 1 after choosing to bat first in Colombo. The pitch offered very little help to the bowlers, making it a challenging morning for the Indian attack.

Before the match, India had an injury concern after the BCCI confirmed that Shubman Gill hurt his right ring finger during India's practice session.

As a result, he did not take the field on the opening day, and KL Rahul led the side at the toss. Sri Lanka XI won the toss and decided to bat, taking full advantage of the good batting conditions.

The Sri Lankan openers started confidently and did not allow the Indian fast bowlers like Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Ravindra Jadeja to settle.
