Comical run-outs, hilarious fielding blunders, and costly lapses in judgment seem to be deeply ingrained in Pakistan cricket. Whether it is the men’s team or the Pakistan Women’s team, moments of self-sabotage continue to surface at the most unexpected times.

A similar incident unfolded in Pakistan’s latest match in the ongoing 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. In just the second over of the Pakistan Women run-chase against Australia at Headingley in Leeds, opening batters Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza were involved in a hilarious mix-up that led to the run out of the latter.

Muneeba Ali sacrifices Gull Feroza in Pakistan chase

The hilarious incident occurred during the second over of the Pakistan innings against Australia in match number 21 of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

When Australian fast bowler Kim Garth sent down a wide down the leg side, wicketkeeper Beth Mooney failed to collect the ball cleanly, prompting Pakistan openers Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza to go for a run.

However, both batters hesitated and attempted to return after running down halfway through the pitch. An agile Georgia Voll collected the ball from behind the wicketkeeper, and threw the ball towards bowler Kim Garth to catch non-striker Gull Feroza well short of her crease.

The incident marked yet another chapter in a long list of bizarre run-out dismissals and on-field mix-ups that have plagued Pakistan cricket over the years.

Pakistan shot out for just 86

Chasing 200 runs for a win at Leeds, Pakistan Women bundled out for just 86 in 13.4 overs. Opening batter Muneeba Ali herself made 32 off those runs from just 25 balls to top score in the innings.

Only two more players, in the form of Iram Javed and captain Fatima Sana managed to breach the double-digits, and the ‘Women in Green’ were aided with nine extras from the Australian bowlers. The rest of the eight Pakistani batters conjured just 16 runs between them, with as many as four players falling for ducks.

For Australia, Sophie Molineux (2-6), Annabel Sutherland (2-12) and Ellyse Perry (2-9) picked up two wickets each in the innings. Georgia Wareham also delivered tight figures of 1-2.

Earlier in the game, Australia batted first and mounted 199-7 in 20 overs. Ellyse Perry minted 71 runs from just 48 balls with nine cracking boundaries and a six to unleash the knock of the day.

Pakistan eliminated from 2026 T20 World Cup

Last week, the Pakistan Women’s team became one of the first sides of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to get knocked out from the tournament’s semifinal race.

With defeats to India, South Africa, Bangladesh and Australia in successive games, Fatima Sana and co. are currently placed fifth on the six-team Group A points table in England. Pakistan will now face Netherlands in match 26 of the competition on June 27 in Bristol.

A win for Pakistan in the match will help them avoid a bottom-placed finish in Group A.
