The New Zealand cricket team has reportedly received a massive jolt ahead of their impending series-deciding third Test against England. Just a day before the final Test of the series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, several reports are claiming that lanky paceman Kyle Jamieson will not be able to play for the ‘Black Caps’ in their most important match of the tour.
Jamieson played the first two Tests of the series, and picked up a match-winning three-wicket haul in the second innings of The Oval Test last week. New Zealand will head into the third Test with the series levelled at 1-1.
Kyle Jamieson likely to miss third Test for New Zealand
As reported by Matt Roller from ESPNCricinfo on Wednesday, June 24, Kyle Jamieson will likely miss New Zealand’s upcoming series-deciding third Test against England in Nottingham later this week.
The fast bowler has been suffering from back injuries over the past few months. Earlier, New Zealand captain Tom Latham had also confirmed that the New Zealand team management was only aiming to play Jamieson in two of the three Test matches in England in a bid to manage the speedster’s workload.

As per reports, New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner will now come into contention for the third Test of the series. However, the playing XI of the visiting group is yet to be announced by the NZC.
Kyle Jamieson form in recent Tests
Kyle Jamieson was also rested from New Zealand’s one-off Test in Ireland last month after playing the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the entirety of New Zealand’s five-match home series against South Africa.
The speedster also played a couple of matches for the Delhi Capitals franchise in the recently-concluded IPL 2026 season.
The cricketer started off New Zealand’s series in England with a fiery five-wicket haul at Lord’s earlier this month. Picking up figures of 5-62 in the first innings, the right-arm paceman claimed six wickets in the match overall. Unfortunately for him, the New Zealand team lost the match by 115 runs.
In the second Test at The Oval, Jamieson snared four wickets, including three in the decisive English innings as the visitors secured a comprehensive 253-run win to level the series 1-1. The 31-year-old has so far bagged 10 wickets in two matches at an impressive bowling average of 24.20.
New Zealand in mid-table traffic, England stuck at seven in WTC standings
With crucial WTC points up for grab, both New Zealand and England teams will be aiming to win the impending decider and seal the series in the process.
The ‘Black Caps’ are currently placed fourth on the WTC 2025-27 standings with a PCT of 66.67. A win in Nottingham will help them surpass Sri Lanka to claim third position on the table.
The England cricket team, meanwhile, continue to struggle at number seven with just 38 points.
