Glenn Phillips played a stunning knock against India in the first T20I match to help his side post a formidable total. He came into the crease when the Kiwis were in a spot of bother, but the batter remained unbeaten and scored 82 off 40 balls.
He played some delightful strokes in his unbeaten knock, but the best of the lot came on the last ball of the New Zealand innings against Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who went for plenty on his comeback. Phillips brought out his trademark switch-hit shot to stun the Indian side.
Glenn Phillips brings out the switch-hit to stun Bhuvneshwar Kumar
On the last ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar went full and straight, and it seemed the Kiwi batter anticipated the delivery as he switched his stance and became a left-handed batter.
There were just two fielders on the off-side for the right-handed player, and three on the leg side. Hence, to maximise the last ball, he used the switch-hit as he connected from the middle of the bat and smashed it over the deep cover region to end the innings with a boundary.
Interestingly, this wasn’t a random shot that he brought from his textbook; rather, Glenn Phillips is known for playing such outrageous shots on a regular basis, and it makes a bowler’s job tough.

The right-handed batter was aggressive right from the word go, and while most of the batters chipped in with quick runs, Phillips stayed till the end and registered a fine fifty to punish the Indian bowlers.
This was his 15th fifty-plus score in T20Is, and he joined Brendon McCullum and other Kiwi batters in an elusive list.
