In the ongoing 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand, the hosts, batting first, put 180 runs on the board. In reply, India openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma got off to a slow start.

Sanju Samson played a maiden over, which put the pressure on Abhishek to get the scorecard ticking. The southpaw, looking to get runs on the board, took the aerial route and handed a simple catch. However, luck was on Abhishek’s side, and the ball turned out to be a no-ball.

Abhishek Sharma Saved By A No-Ball In 2nd T20I

On the 5th ball of the 2nd over, Jacob Duffy bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that Abhishek looked to pull. However, the India opener was caught by surprise, and the extra bounce did the trick. The southpaw mistimed a pull shot, and Nathan Smith took a comfortable catch at square leg.

Abhishek Sharma started to walk back to the pavilion, which is when the umpires stopped the batter. The replay showed Duffy overstepped, and Sharma was told to continue batting.

Abhishek Sharma replies strongly, achieves a massive milestone

Following the no-ball, Abhishek Sharma hit two consecutive boundaries to get India going. Eventually, Sharma went all guns blazing and also completed 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year.

Notably, Abhishek has become the 1st Indian opener in the history of the sport to complete 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year. Overall, he is the 3rd Indian to do so after Suryakumar Yadav (1164 in 2022) and Ishan Kishan (1159 in 2026).

Jacob Duffy Got Rid Of Abhishek Sharma In Similar Manner in IPL 2026

Many might have forgotten but Jacob Duffy got rid of Abhishek Sharma in a similar manner during IPL 2026 opener between RCB and SRH. In that opening match, Duffy got game time because of Josh Hazlewood's unavailability and went face to face against Abhishek.

Even in that match, Duffy bowled a back of a length delivery which Abhishek looked to pull, but a top edge resulted in Jitesh Sharma taking an easy catch.
