Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026) is currently colliding with the grand season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). Celebrated as a cricketing festival, IPL is the biggest league on the calendar. While its Pakistani counterpart has often followed in its footsteps, becoming as successful as the Indian extravaganza.

For the second straight year, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has choose the same window as IPL to contest the PSL. As a result, Pakistan's T20 league is facing scarcity of quality foreign players

Although icons like David Warner, Steve Smith, Tabriaz Shamsi and Rilee Rossouw are playing in the PSL 2026, they are past their prime as their stocks have dipped in the IPL market.

PSL better than IPL, Rilee Rossouw

It has been a long-standing debate on which league is better than the other. While commenting on the same, South African batter Rilee Rossouw has shared his view on the IPL vs PSL debate.

According to Rossouw, IPL is a "very long" tournament, while PSL is "compact with a more competitive cricket". He further called IPL more like a "movie"

“IPL is a very long tournament, and PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is a lot more fierce. IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood backing it, so it's a lot more of a movie than actual cricket,” Rossouw stated in an interview during the PSL 2026.

Rossouw is currently in Pakistan for his stint with the Quetta Gladiators in the PSL. He has been a consistent part of the league, having featured in the league since PSL 2016. Overall, he has played for two teams: Quetta and Multan Sultans.

The 36-year-old batter smashed a match-winning half-century, but he has not done much in the season, barring that 53 vs RawalPindiz

Even though Rilee Rossouw has been a consistent name in the PSL, he has also featured in four different seasons of the IPL. During IPL 2024 and IPL 2025, the left-handed batter played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (now called Royal Challengers Bengaluru).

In his first two IPL seasons, Rossouw played under Virat Kohli's captaincy, though he appeared in just five matches across the two seasons.

Meanwhile, the Proteas returned to the league after an eight-year exile, when the Delhi Capitals bought him in IPL 2023. In the subsequent season, he moved to the Punjab Kings to have his best IPL season, scoring 211 runs in 8 innings, with the best score of 61 vs RCB.

Rilee Rossouw's roller-coaster ride in international cricket

Once touted as one of the most aggressive batters in South Africa, Rilee Rossouw last played for the Proteas in March 2023. He was an integral part during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, where he slammed a famous century vs Bangladesh.

Apart from the century in the T20 World Cup, Rossouw smacked another breathtaking T20I ton, which came against India at Indore in the lead-up to the ICC event in 2022.

Overall, the southpaw has played 36 ODIs and 29 T20Is, hitting 2006 international runs, including five centuries and 10 fifties. He has played 395 T20s to score close to 10000 runs at a strike rate of 145.16.
