In a significant development, the Indian ODI squad for Afghanistan series will assemble in Mullanpur, the venue where they will play a one-off Test match from June 6 onwards. Among them, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be there as well, and now, it has now been confirmed when they will start training.
According to RevSportz, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will start training in Mullanpur on June 9, and will keep on going there till June 11. After that, they will be heading to Dharamshala, the venue where the first of the three-match ODI series will take place on June 13.
World Cup 2027 In Focus
Let’s not forget the fact that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are looking for a one final push for the ODI World Cup in 2027. They were just one step away in 2023, as Pat Cummins’ Australia handed them a major heartbreak at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Therefore, both veterans, Kohli and Rohit have the focus on keep the good form as well as in their fitness.
Moreover, the BCCI added six net bowlers for Team India’s training for Afghanistan challenge. There, Mayank Yadav was seen as well as an additional force, indicating that how quickly things have changed from IPL 2026 to international cricket.

The report further claimed that the BCCI has told all the net bowlers to stay even after the India vs Afghanistan Test. They will be bowling in the nets towards India’s ODI squad members, include Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer as well.
As mentioned above, their training in Mullanpur under the scorching heat where average temperature is around 40 degree centigrade will take place in June 9 and June 11. However, Prince Yadav has already been picked for India's ODI squad, and therefore, he will be travelling alongside Kohli and Rohit when they fly to Dharamshala.
Kohli Comes From Highs, Rohit Joins After Lows
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will be joining Team India squad after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s emphatic IPL 2026 triumph. This was RCB’s second IPL victory, and it came in consecutive years to make it even bigger.
Kohli himself played an important role to make it happen. His 42-ball 75 not out helped RCB chase down a 156-run target against Gujarat Titans. In total, Kohli made 675 runs at a superb strike rate of 165.85, averaging 56.25.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, tallied 283 runs across nine innings, striking at 157.22. He only played two important knocks in IPL 2026, on against KKR (78 off 38 balls) and another against Lucknow Super Giants (84 off 44 balls).
Mumbai Indians altogether under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, as they could only win four out of 14 outings. Hence, they finished ninth on IPL 2026 points table, only above Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
