On Thursday, Gujarat Titans faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026, and the match was packed with drama and high intensity at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Even though Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are good friends and teammates for India, the situation completely changed once they were on opposite teams.
Virat Kohli, known for his competitive nature, showed an aggressive side during the game. Notably, after getting Gill out, his fiery celebration caught everyone’s attention and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the match.
RCB struggle with the bat
To begin with, Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl first. This decision worked well in their favor because their bowlers performed brilliantly. As a result, RCB struggled to build a strong score and were all out for 155 runs. In particular, Arshad Khan stood out with an impressive performance, taking three wickets while giving away just 22 runs.
Shubman Gill gives an explosive start to Gujarat Titans
In response, Gujarat Titans started their chase with great energy. Although they lost Sai Sudharsan early, the momentum quickly shifted because of Shubman Gill’s aggressive batting. He played a quick and powerful innings, scoring 43 runs in just 18 balls.
Moreover, his innings included four boundaries and three sixes, which helped his team get off to a flying start. With a strike rate of nearly 239, Gill looked in complete control and seemed ready to take the game away from RCB.
However, the match took a dramatic turn when Gill attempted a big shot off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s delivery. Unfortunately for him, the ball went straight towards Virat Kohli in the field. Kohli reacted quickly and took a sharp catch without any mistake.
Immediately after that, Kohli celebrated in a very intense and emotional manner, throwing the ball to the ground and showing his trademark aggression. This moment reminded fans of his “vintage” energy on the field. Meanwhile, Gill had to walk back disappointed after his promising innings was cut short.
Despite losing Gill, Gujarat Titans continued to stay on track. Additionally, Jos Buttler contributed with a quick 39 runs off 19 balls, which kept the scoreboard moving.
Towards the end, Rahul Tewatia and Jason Holder calmly finished the job with unbeaten scores of 27 and 12 runs respectively. Consequently, Gujarat Titans successfully chased down the target and won the match by four wickets.

Even though there was tension during the game, things looked very different after it ended. During the post-match handshakes, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill shared a light-hearted moment.
Notably, they were seen talking, smiling, and even sharing a friendly side hug. This clearly showed that, despite the on-field aggression, there was mutual respect between the two players.

As of now, RCB are placed second on the points table. They have collected 12 points from nine matches and also maintain a strong net run rate of +1.420. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are placed fifth, with 10 points and a net run rate of -0.192.
