The exchange appeared light-hearted, reflecting the long-standing camaraderie between the two national heroes.

Virat Kohli engages with umpire over Patidar dismissal

Earlier in the match, Virat Kohli had a run-in with the umpires over the controversial dismissal of RCB captain Rajat Patidar.

As it happened, Patidar whacked Gujarat Titans fast bowler Arshad Khan towards his leg side, only for Jason Holder to come running in and grab a sensational catch, all while avoiding a potential clash with teammate Kagiso Rabada.

RCB fold up for just 155

Being put into bat first, RCB folded up for just 155 in 19.2 overs. Jacob Bethell became RCB’s first casualty of the innings courtesy of Gujarat Titans paceman Mohammed Siraj inside the powerplay overs.

In-form Virat Kohli smeared 28 from just 13 balls, but the legendary opener had his flying start curtailed by Kagiso Rabada. Devdutt Padikkal at number three top scored in the innings with his 40-run knock off 24 deliveries.

Captain Rajat Patidar made 19 from 15 balls before his dismissal sparked a major controversy and brought the game to a halt for a while.

For the Gujarat Titans, Arshad Khan unfurled the spell of the innings with exceptional figures of 3-22, which included the prized scalps of Patidar and Krunal Pandya. Jason Holder also picked up two wickets in the innings, that of dangermen Jitesh Sharma and Romario Shepherd.

Ace spinner Rashid Khan struck twice in his four-over spell to claim economical figures of 2-19.

In response, the Gujarat Titans franchise reached 109-3 at the halfway stage of their run chase.
