IPL 2026 will go down in history as one of the most controversial editions. From vaping incidents to vlogging bans, the league has almost seen it all with three weeks still left for the tournament to end.
The BCCI recently took serious action against the growing indiscipline among franchises and introduced Standard Operating Protocols (SoPs) to curb honeytrapping fear. For the unversed, several players were spotted with their girlfriends and unauthorised friends in their hotel rooms, sparking fear of sensitive information getting leaked to outside world.
Honey Trap Victim Identified by BCCI
In the latest events, a report from Cricblogger stated that the honey trap victim has been identified by the Indian Cricket Board. The report mentioned that the scandal began with a board official's secretary.
Notably, a budding India cricketer, desperate for an IPL contract, got in touch with an official's secretary, who eventually asked the young star to pay certain amount as commission in exchange for facilitating an IPL 2026 contract.
When the player reportedly refused to pay, the secretary allegedly began blackmailing the cricketer. The secretary got in touch with a sports reporter, further blackmailing the cricketer to expose his personal life for failing to pay a certain amount, fearing honey trapping.

BCCI Yet To Comment On Latest Development
The BCCI is yet to officially communicate on the matter as these are serious allegations and the culprit seems to be within the system. Notably, the board is expected to launch a serious investigation into the matter of honey trapping.
The report added that there might be a nexus operating within the board, which is why there is no action on this matter so far. However, once media flags and puts the issue to limelight, the board is most likely to act on it swiftly and expose the secretary and also the cricketer involved.
BCCI Introduces New Rules To Curb Honey Trapping Risk
BCCI's New Rules To Curb Honey Trap Risks:
- All players and support staff must inform and obtain clearance from the SLO and/or TIO before leaving the team hotel at any hour.
- Any movement outside the hotel - personal, recreational or otherwise - must be communicated in advance to the Team Manager and SLO.
- The SLO/TIO will maintain a contemporaneous log of all team movements, which can be inspected by the BCCI Operations Team.
