Taking on tournament favorites Rajasthan Royals in match number 28, the hosts chased down its 156-run target with two balls to spare despite slipping to 52-4, and to 85-6 at one stage.
‘Man of the Moment’ Rinku Singh won his side the once ‘unwinnable’ game, crashing Rajasthan Royals bowlers to all corners of the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. The belligerent left-hander whacked 53* runs off 34 balls with five fours and two sixes, including one to seal the deal in the final over.
Following KKR’s thrilling win, fans took to X and heaped significant praises on Rinku Singh as the hard-hitting Indian middle-order batter forced his way back into form.

Rinku Singh blazed KKR to a remarkable win over Rajasthan Royals in match number 28 of the IPL 2026 season. Batting at number six in a chase of 156, the attacking left-hander clattered 53* runs off 34 balls, thus registering his first half-century of the season and the fifth of his IPL career.

The innings also marked Rinku’s first IPL fifty in three years, i.e., since the conclusion of the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals batted first and charted 155-9 in 20 overs. After starting off with an 81-run opening partnership between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Royals were restricted to a modest total courtesy of three-wicket hauls from Kartik Tyagi and Varun Chakravarthy.

In response, hosts and hitherto winless KKR lost opener Tim Seifert for a first-ball duck to Jofra Archer. The home franchise slipped to a precarious 52-4, and eventually to 85-6, before Rinku Singh forged an unbroken 76-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Anukul Roy. Rinku himself smeared 53* off 34 balls with five boundaries and two sixes as KKR secured its first win of the IPL 2026 season in seven matches.
KKR no longer the bottom team, to face LSG next
The outcome also helped the KKR franchise to lift itself up to number nine on the IPL 2026 points table, displacing Mumbai Indians in the process to number 10. With one win and a no-result from seven matches, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side has accumulated three points so far.
The team will now face LSG in match number 38 of the IPL 2026 season. The match will be hosted by the Ekana Stadium in Luckow on Sunday, April 26 next week and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
