Lucknow Super Giants had a moment to cherish when Mohammed Shami dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for a golden duck in the PBKS vs LSG IPL 2026 match. The Punjab batter was sent back in the very first over, and that was the only time LSG felt joy in the entire innings, as Priyansh Arya, and Cooper Connolly tore them apart.
After the loss of the opening wicket, the PBKS batting duo never looked back as they took down the LSG attack with utmost ease. It was almost as if the PBKS pair were playing a video game as no LSG bowler had any answer to their onslaught.
Captain Rishabh Pant was also to be blamed for the carnage as he made tactical captaincy errors, especially in terms of bowling changes. After the 6th over, he introduced Ayush Badoni, in place of Aiden Markram, and the move failed as the spinner was taken to the cleaners.
Markram conceded the most expensive over in IPL 2026
Absorbing the early weather, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly settled in properly, and this is when Pant decided to bring Markram into the attack, and that proved to be costly for the Lucknow Super Giants.
Markram was introduced in the 13th over, and both the Punjab Kings batters made a mockery of him as the over started with three sixes in a row from the bat of the Australian. The fourth ball was a wide, followed by a single, as Markram breathed a sigh of relief.
However, Priyansh made sure that Markram’s over ended in the best possible way for them as he smacked consecutive sixes, and the LSG spinner conceded 32 runs in the over, the most expensive in IPL 2026.

Why Rishabh Pant is to be blamed for Markram's misery
After the 7th over of the PBKS innings, Pant introduced Ayush Badoni; instead, he should have brought in Markram. With two left-handers in the opposition, Pant’s idea of bringing in an off-break bowler was correct, but he brought the wrong spinner into the attack.
Markram has the experience of delivering the goods at the international level, and during that period, Connolly was struggling to time the ball. Markram could have taken advantage of the situation, but that didn’t happen.
Instead, the off-break bowler from South Africa was introduced when Priyansh Arya, and Connolly were well set, and were inching closer to their century mark.
