Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's tendency to smash every ball with raw power backfired on him ahead of his highly anticipated Team India debut in the T20I series against Ireland, starting on June 26.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been in the spotlight ever since he landed in Ireland for his maiden stint with India's senior team. A prolific IPL 2026 season led to Sooryavanshi's entry into the Indian team, as the BCCI selected him in the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's potential India debut sends cricket fraternity into frenzy

The IPL 2026 was a memorable tournament for Sooryavanshi, who won the prestigious Orange Cap for scoring the most runs (776) in the competition. His remarkable performance for Rajasthan Royals eventually earned Sooryavanshi his maiden call-up to the Indian T20I team.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a nonchalant six-hitter. The swashbuckling southpaw hammered 72 sixes in 16 matches in the IPL 2026, showcasing his ability to thrive in the shortest format.

The build-up to the India vs Ireland series has been all about Sooryavanshi, as the 15-year-old brings plenty of energy and excitement to the table.

This is the reason why Cricket Ireland has made special arrangements, increasing the seating capacity at the Civil Service Cricket Club so that the ground in Belfast can accommodate more spectators than usual.

As he has immense potential and is a natural crowd-puller for being a six-hitting machine, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has created enormous buzz ahead of his potential Team India debut in Belfast.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets reality check before India debut

Two of the most fascinating aspects of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's game are his fearless approach and the power he generates through a prodigious down-swing. The youngster believes in taking the challenge head-on and dominating the opposition with a brutal counter-attack.

However, his adamance could prove costly for Sooryavanshi as he prepares for his first international match for India

In the latest turn of events, Sooryavanshi's aggression humbled him in front of the members of the Indian team during a net session in Ireland.

On Thursday, June 25, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had an intense net session, fine-tuning his batting ahead of his potential T20I debut in the Indian jersey.

The explosive left-handed batter played some audacious shots in the nets before falling prey to his killer instinct, as one ball sneezed past the inner half of his bat and uprooted his leg stump.

Sooryavanshi's slogging also cost him his wicket against an Irish net bowler named Harry during one of the practice sessions.

In an interview with BBC Sport, the Irishman revealed that he bowled a good length delivery around the middle stump, as Sooryavanshi attempted to slice it over the in-field.

However, his aggressive mindset led to his dismissal, with the Indian teenager hitting it straight to the fielder placed at cover.

Should Vaibhav Sooryavanshi change his playing style?

Despite being dismissed twice due to casual shot selection, we reckon Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shouldn't divert from his all-out approach in T20Is.

His attacking game and ability to capitalise on the powerplay field restrictions make Sooryavanshi a valuable asset in the shortest format. He adds a unique element to the table due to his ruthless approach.

Success and failure are part and parcel of cricket. So, considering Vaibhav Sooryavanshi plays with an ultra-aggressive intent, he's bound to fail on some day or another.

The Indian management should back Sooryavanshi to play his natural game, and if he gets going, the southpaw can script memorable wins for the team going forward.
