Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been the Rajasthan Royals' star in IPL 2026. However, his golden duck against SRH on April 13, dismissed by debutant Praful Hinge, marked a rare blemish.

Although rare, another event prompted a surprising revelation from Rajasthan Royals’ assistant coach Trevor Penney, who explained that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi felt frustrated and overlooked by the team management.

Sooryavanshi plays as impact player in SRH vs RR

In the SRH vs RR outing, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played as an impact substitute on the ground as Donovan Ferreira, the Proteas all-rounder, took his place in the main playing XI. This development had him sit out on the ground.

As the Rajasthan Royals opted to bowl first, Sooryavanshi was in the dugout as the Sunrisers Hyderabad smashed 216 runs on the board. After SRH's innings, Sooryavanshi walked in to begin the chase for RR as the opener with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

He came in as the impact sub, replacing Sandeep Sharma; however, he was dismissed on the very first ball of his innings as he mistimed a full shot, got a top edge, and Ishan Kishan grabbed a sitter.

Sooryavanshi upset with RR management's decision?

While this development shed light on the ‘human side’ of a flawless Sooryavanshi, who can also make mistakes, as per RR fielding coach Trevor Penney, Sooryavanshi is unhappy for not getting a place in the main playing XI.

Significantly, while giving an interview on the sidelines, Trevor pointed out that Donovan Ferreira passed a recent fitness test, and the Rajasthan Royals could not afford to miss out on a fielder like him on the ground.

Penney clarified that Sooryavanshi is not a poor fielder and that Ferreira’s fielding is currently superior.

“The last game he missed out on, he wasn’t very happy because he loves his fielding. It’s not because he’s a poor fielder. Donovan has passed his fitness test. He broke his collarbone in the SA20. He’s a gun fielder. It’s good to have him back on the field. Sadly, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi misses out,” Trevor said on the sidelines.

Vaibhav's flawless IPL 2026 outings before SRH vs RR clash

Sooryavanshi, except for the SRH vs RR outing, has had a solid IPL 2026 so far. The record-breaking wonder kid has posted a strike rate of 263.16 from the five matches he has played, while also maintaining an average of 40.00.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's special 15-ball 50 against Chennai Super Kings also grabbed attention, as he is currently the third-highest run-scorer in IPL 2026 so far, with Heinrich Klaasen leading the charts.

Nevertheless, despite the recent loss to the Rajasthan Royals, they top the IPL 2026 charts, as their unbeaten streak was broken. They will look to regain their momentum in the tournament in their upcoming clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
