Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been compared to legendary Sachin Tendulkar by former India wicket-keeper and chief selector Kiran More. More is known for being the BCCI chief selector, who had chosen MS Dhoni for the first time for the Indian ODI squad in 2004.
Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on fire with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2026 season for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The 15-year-old opener from Bihar has continued from where he had begun in the last IPL season, where he became the youngest to debut in the league.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s excellent IPL 2026 season
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is having the time of his life, as he has doubled the runs he had scored in the last IPL edition in this IPL 2026 season. Sooryavanshi has smacked 579 runs in 13 games with a strike rate of 236.32. He has hit one century and 3 fifties in the season, with his highest score being 103 runs.
Sooryavanshi became the youngest Indian and overall player to hit more than one century in the IPL tournament. He has also hit 53 sixes, the most by any Indian in a single IPL season, and is on the verge of breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 59 maximums.

Kiran More sees a young 'Sachin Tendulkar' in Vaibhav
Kiran More, who played 49 Tests and 94 ODIs, scoring 1285 and 563 runs, respectively. His India career stretched from 1984 to 1993. More transitioned into the selector's role for Baroda in domestic cricket and was also the chief BCCI selector from 2003 to 2006 and picked MS Dhoni for his India debut.
More talked about Sooryavanshi and compared him to a 16-year-old Sachin Tendulkar. More was part of the Indian team when Sachin Tendulkar made his India debut in Pakistan in 1989.
“When I first saw Sachin Tendulkar, who came in the Indian team for the first time and batted against a great bowler, I knew right away that he was something special. The same is with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi; he is special. It is a good thing that we have such a player. He is going to bring great glory to the country. Let him play the way he does. He has been made and well prepared by God for this sport,” More told ANI.
Sachin Tendulkar had done well in his debut Test series, playing four Tests and scoring 214 runs with two fifties to his name. He infamously decided to continue batting despite getting hit on the nose and bleeding from the injury after being hit by Waqar Younis's bouncer.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi receives maiden India. A call-up
The India A team for their tri-series in Sri Lanka recently included Vaibhav. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar lauded Sooryavanshi while implying that Yashasvi Jaiswal is higher in the hierarchy during a press conference.
Sooryavanshi has 333 runs at an average of 44.12 and a strike rate of 164.95 in eight innings of List-A cricket. In addition, he has scored a ton and a half-century. With 1412 runs in 25 innings at an average of 56.48 and a strike rate of 165, Sooryavanshi is India's top run scorer in U19 ODIs. In the format, he also has four tons and seven fifties.
