Ricky Ponting has finally opened up on the alleged fight between Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh. This comes amidst the Punjab Kings’ struggles in the ongoing IPL 2026 season.

The Punjab Kings had started the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League tournament in a dominating fashion. They had won the six games in the first half of the tournament out of the seven games. Their game against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata was washed out due to rain.

Punjab Kings, however, suffered a 180-degree turn in fortunes. They have gone from chasing down 264 runs against the Delhi Capitals in Delhi to losing six games in a row. They had occupied the top spot in the IPL 2026 points table for a long time but are now on the verge of being eliminated from the tournament.

Punjab Kings now have 13 points from 13 games and are placed fifth on the points table with a net run rate of 0.227. They will need to win their last game with a huge margin to remain in contention for a final four finish.

Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh reportedly fight at the airport

Although the Punjab Kings' on-field performances have been worrisome, there have been numerous reports of problems in the team's dressing room. The team's key players, Arshdeep Singh and Shreyas Iyer, have reportedly been involved in a number of scandals.

Journalist Vibhu Bhola of News 24 claimed that there was a problem between pacer Arshdeep Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer. He revealed that a top fast bowler and a team captain got into a fight at the airport in Delhi.

The speedster didn't back down, despite allegations that the team's captain has been riding high lately. As their relationship heated up, he responded appropriately to the captain. There may be more to the Shreyas Iyer-Arshdeep Singh affair, notwithstanding his refusal to identify the players or the team.

Ricky Ponting rubbishes rumors of a Shreyas Iyer-Arshdeep Singh fight

Amidst all the rumors and allegations, Ricky Ponting, head coach of Punjab Kings, has clarified that all these things are just rumors when asked about the alleged fight between Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh.

He shared that social media turns one little headline into a huge story, and if there is anything that needs to be handled, he does it himself in the dressing room.

‘There haven't been any off-field things that I've had to worry about as a coach. We've managed everything the way we need to manage it as a team (and we don't really care what anyone else says about us). There's so much social media out there that one little headline turns into a big story, but that doesn't affect us.

We know what we need to do as players to win games of cricket, and we push on with that. If there's anything that needs to be handled, I handle it as a coach, and you guys in the media will never find out about it. That's the way it goes. Stories are stories, and headlines are headlines, but we know what we need to do to play our best cricket, and in a few days, if we do and if we qualify, then all this negativity out there about us will go away,” Pointing told PTI.
