David Warner slams Australia's performance [Source: AFP]
Australia suffered a 2-1 series defeat against South Africa on the away tour, and fellow Australian veteran David Warner has labelled the defeat, specifically the 3rd Test, as ‘un-Australian’.
Notably, the Australian side collapsed for just 111 runs, marking one of the lowest innings totals for Australia against South Africa in away Tests. Nevertheless, bashing the humiliating defeat, Warner criticised the side for not putting up their very best.
David Warner slams disgraceful performance from Australian batters in SA
Speaking on Fox Sports, David Warner slammed the side that was down at 60/7 at Lunch on Day 5 while aiming for 288 for the win. Holding no bars, Warner spilt that the batters have underperformed in the series.
"It is terrible. It is un-Australian. There is no fight whatsoever. It is disgraceful. The batters have let the bowlers down all series. Matt Renshaw showed fight in that first Test, but I think the batters have been utterly disgraceful," Warner said.
Mitchell Starc bagged 15 wickets, being the highest wicket-taker of the series, while Matt Renshaw led the batting department with his 369 runs from the 3 Tests. However, other than them, the Australian batting side hasn't performed brilliantly.
Travis Head scored 210 runs, while the next-highest scorer was Alex Carey, with 157 runs from 3 matches at an average of 31.40. Moreover, in high-pressure situations, the Australian batting lineup collapsed, something that is unexpected of them, according to David Warner.
How Australia dominated fourth-innings wins in Tests before 2025
If we look at the data from 10 years ago until 2025, Australia had been a powerhouse in dominating teams while batting first. Be it setting massive totals or tumbling wickets, the team Down Under did it all.
Totals of 662 were put up by the team in 2017 against England, 624 against Pakistan, and even 575 against South Africa back in 2022. Notably, Australia won 24 Test matches out of the 45 they played from 2015 to 2025, while drawing 5 of them and carrying a W/L ratio of 1.5.
