South Africa defeated Australia in Cape Town to seal the three-match Test series, 2-1, and Simon Harmer, the spin bowler, played a huge part in the win. The off-break bowler picked up 6 wickets in the second innings of the third Test and dismantled the Australian batting lineup.

After a breathtaking spell to clinch the victory for his side, Harmer, 37, broke down in tears, remembering all the hard work he did to become South Africa’s main spinner.

Cricketers don’t show their real emotions on the field, but Harmer broke the barrier as he got emotional after his magical spell helped the Proteas win the 3-match series.

The off-break bowler picked up 4 wickets in the first innings, and followed it up with 6 for 16 in the second innings as he plucked a 10-wicket haul in the game, and South Africa won by 176 runs.

He was awarded the Player of the Match award, and during the post-match presentation, Harmer asked what he would tell his younger self, and the match-winner struggled to find the words as he broke down in tears.

“I don't think I would change my journey for anything. The person that I've become,” Harmer said as as tears roll through his eyes.

A designated spinner, the 37-year-old bowler not only won the game for his team with the ball, but he also contributed massively with the bat in hand.

In the third Test itself, the spinner bagged 10 wickets, and in the series, he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker (14), at an average of 29.36.

With the bat, he shone in the second Test, as he scored a brilliant 82, and forged a match-winning partnership alongside skipper Temba Bavuma.

In the three Tests, Harmer finished with 118 runs in five innings, with an average of 39.33, which was more than some of the designated batters on the two teams.
