Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan’s injury had the camp concerned on Thursday morning in Mackay, as the Asians prepare for what could be their biggest Test on foreign soil.

This is just days after their historic Test win over Australia in Darwin, where they crushed the six-time world champions by 9 wickets. However, with under 48 hours to go for the series decider, there is a fresh update on Tanzid’s situation, and the player could be well on track to open the innings for his team.

Will Tanzid Hasan play 2nd Test vs Australia?

In the first Test in Darwin, Tanzid became the first Bangladeshi Test centurion Down Under, stamping his authority against a fierce bowling attack with 101 off 197. Hence, his participation in the second match is of the utmost importance for Bangladesh.

To their relief, Tanzid was back in the Mackay nets on Friday afternoon after missing the training session the previous day, preparing for the big Test.

On August 20, he had spent the majority of his time in the corner alongside former Bangladesh captain and chief selector Habibul Bashar, raising massive concerns over his availability.

Why did Tanzid Hasan miss training ahead of Mackay Test?

As reported earlier, it is understood that the left-hand batter spent his time away from the nets due to a neck injury. There were no signs of this injury during the series opener, and he was previously preparing well for the next match.

It was a precautionary move from the coaches and management to ensure that the injury does not worsen.

Over the past 12 months, India captain Shubman Gill has also missed some matches due to a similar problem, and it was wise from the Bangladesh management to make Tanzid skip the training, while being optimistic about his participation.

Bangladesh cautiously optimistic of creating history

Bangladesh has always been a team known for their over-the-top celebrations and unwanted antics when they do well on the field. However, last week, the scenes were different, and Bangladesh did not over-celebrate their first-ever Test win in Australia.

A huge credit to this demeanour goes to their coach, Phil Simmons, who has instilled this attitude in the team, where they almost looked confident of getting a positive result.

They have defeated Pakistan in all of their last 4 Test encounters recently, and as they stand at the brink of another series win over a big team, Simmons has shown a lot of faith in his team and preparations to possibly get another win.

“The only thing I had to say to them - and I will repeat it anyway - is that Australia is going to come harder. So we have to either keep that level of performance or get a little bit better," as quoted by Cricinfo.

“Even if we [have to] get 1% better in some areas, then we will have to make sure that that's there,” he said before presenting a simple formula for his side, “bat and get big scores in the first innings and make sure that the other team has to do a lot of work to get those scores.”

Apart from Tanzid Hasan’s availability, Bangladesh will also have Shoriful Islam available for the second Test after the left-arm quick missed the opener amid a hamstring injury.
