Pakistan is set to return to England for a Test series after a long gap of 6 years, as the three-match Test series kicks off at Headingley in Leeds on August 19.
The opening Test will commence at 3:30 PM (IST) and will be of utmost importance for both teams, considering their standings on the World Test Championship 2025-27 table. Ahead of the series, both England and Pakistan look way out of contention for the final, being placed 7th and 8th on the table, respectively.
PAK vs ENG 1st Test Preview
The visitors, Pakistan, are heading to England after a 1-1 series tie in the West Indies, where they bounced back after going down in the series.
The spirits are high in the camp after Babar Azam returned to captaincy and scored a couple of fifties in the Caribbean. The former captain Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique also scored centuries in their solitary appearance, while pacers had a say in Shaheen Afridi’s absence.
Babar Azam’s availability is under the scanner. The skipper is still waiting for official clearance to play the match after sustaining a finger injury in the Tour match win over Professional County Select XI.
On the other hand, England will be back under Joe Root from this series onwards, making it exciting to see how he leads the team after the end of the Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum era.
Emilio Gay’s pair in the tour match is a concern, while who fills the Stokes-sized hole in the team would be intriguing to see after their series loss against New Zealand earlier in the summer.
As the two sides face off in the series opener over the next five days, we take a look at their head-to-head records ahead.
