The Shubman Gill-led India recently lost a three-match ODI series in England, after winning the first game by some margin. The Men in Blue gave a tough fight in the second game, but were heavily exposed in the IND vs ENG 3rd ODI at Lord's.
All the Indian bowlers had a pretty ordinary day at the office, as the hosts posted a mammoth total of 387/3 on the board. In reply, the two Rolls Royces of the Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, tried hard, but the visitors lost it by 27 runs.
As the defeat in the IND vs ENG ODIs gave more headaches than providing answers, let us analyse three players who can be recalled to the Indian setup.
3 players who can be recalled after IND vs ENG ODIs
Ravindra Jadeja
The "Superstar" Ravindra Jadeja has been out of the Indian ODI squad since the Afghanistan series. The team management is looking to try the likes of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar over the the veteran all-rounder, although no official comment has ever been made on Jaddu's axing.
Jadeja may have retired from the shortest format, but he is still a gun player in the ODI and Test formats. Even at 37, he is the still India’s most agile cricketer on the field, and his batting and bowling prowess are multiple times better than his younger counterparts, which was clearly and statistically evident in IPL 2026.

That said, if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are proving to be instrumental parts of the ODI setup, then another Rolls Royce can also be there.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Team India's middle order was heavily exposed in the ODI series defeat, with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube failing big time. Since winning the Champions Trophy 2025, the Indian team has tested 9 different batters for 4-7 batting positions, with just Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad averaging over 50.
| Batters | Innings | Runs | Average | Strike Rate |
| KL Rahul | 11 | 369 | 52.71 | 125.08 |
| Shreyas Iyer | 10 | 271 | 27.1 | 79.47 |
| Ishan Kishan | 3 | 140 | 46.66 | 141.41 |
| Axar Patel | 5 | 135 | 33.75 | 97.12 |
| Ruturaj Gaikwad | 2 | 113 | 56.5 | 116.49 |
| Washington Sundar | 7 | 109 | 18.16 | 78.98 |
| Ravindra Jadeja | 5 | 99 | 24.75 | 88.39 |
| Nitish Kumar Reddy | 2 | 73 | 36.5 | 93.58 |
| Harshit Rana | 1 | 29 | 29.0 | 126.08 |
Notably, Gaikwad was dropped from the Indian squad after scoring a century in his last ODI outing, a 105 vs South Africa in Vizag. However, the right-hander, despite having a compact technique, is not getting his due.
With regular failures for irregular players like Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube, there should be an opening for the 29-year-old batter during India’s next ODI assignment, which is against West Indies.
Mohammed Siraj
As Mohammed Siraj was dropped from India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, the then captain Rohit Sharma had questioned his effectiveness when the ball gets old. Since then, Mohammed Siraj has only featured in 6 ODI matches, as the team management has gone forward with the new crop of fast bowlers.
In the last year or so, India have unearthed bowlers like Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav, while Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna have gotten ample opportunities in the format.
However, what this new crop of bowlers lacked was experience, especially in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. Team India seemed far from finding its best-suited combination in the three ODIs against England, and it only pressed Siraj closer to a recall.
Although his stats since 2025 don’t help his cause, Siraj has to be in India’s ODI setup, with or without Bumrah, as the 32-year-old seamer is a natural wicket-taker.
