Taskin Ahmed was in full glee against Australia on the opening day of Bangladesh’s historic tour ‘Down Under’. Opening the bowling for his side, the champion paceman picked up the wicket of Cameron Green at the stroke of lunch to plunge the hosts into further trouble.

The cricketer even celebrated the occasion with a hilarious dance number as Australia went into lunch at 74-4 in 22 overs after winning the toss.

Taskin Ahmed ‘dances’ as Bangladesh make early inroads

Taskin Ahmed laid out a hilarious dance number on Day 1 of Bangladesh’s series-opening first Test against Australia at the Marrara Oval in Darwin. Bowling in one of his return spells in the 22nd over of the Australian innings, Taskin was greeted with a huge six over deep backward square leg by hard-hitting all-rounder Cameron Green.

After bowling four dot deliveries in a row, Ahmed hurled down good length ball angling in, with Green’s bat turning in his hand as he reached out to meet the ball well in front of his body.

As it happened, senior man Mushfiqur Rahim held on to a stunning catch inside the circle to send the all-rounder packing back to the sheds.

The incident marked a rare occasion for Taskin, who has seemingly resorted to a more playful celebration than his usually aggressive demeanour on the field.

Taskin knocks over Beau Webster to expose Australian tail

In the second session of the opening day, Taskin Ahmed also knocked over Australian spin-bowling all-rounder Beau Webster with a peach. The speedster hit the top of off stump with a good length delivery, prompting the Australian number seven to fend down the wrong line.

Ahmed’s breakthrough moment handed him his second wicket of the innings, and reduced Australia to 152-6 in 38.3 overs. The wicket also exposed the Australian tail to rampaging Bangladesh fast bowlers, with top-order talisman Steve Smith leading his side’s resistance with a fighting half-century.

How Bangladesh pacers have asserted dominance in the last 1 year

Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud maybe wreaking havoc on Australian batters, but this is not the first instance of Bangladeshi paceman coming to the fore for their national side in Test cricket off late.

Just a couple of months ago at home, Bangladesh fast bowlers Nahid Rana as well as Taskin pulverized Pakistan to secure a crushing 2-0 series win. Their fast bowlers, as well as spinners, also troubled Sri Lanka in the high-scoring Galle Test last year.

The team’s current WTC 2025-27 ranking of fourth place is a testament to their growing prowess in the longest format, with their pace attack playing a crucial role in their recent success.

With Nahid Rana missing out from the ongoing Bangladesh tour of Australia, the onus has fallen on Taskin and Hasan Mahmud to lead the pace attack and keep Bangladesh’s fast-bowling dominance intact.
