Sunrisers Hyderabad have slowly solidified their chances for the playoffs with their crucial victory in the SRH vs PBKS IPL 2026 clash on May 6.

As the Pat Cummins-led team hosted Punjab at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad bagged two solid points to climb up the table, toppling Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings to finish in the number one position.

Heading into the match, SRH were placed third with 12 points from 10 games. However, this win now not only stamps the playoffs spot qualification, for which the schedule has already been released, but it also makes them one of the contenders to finish in the top one or top two to directly play the Qualifier 1.

After the SRH vs PBKS win, let's take a deep dive into the analysis of how SRH's qualification scenario currently stands.

SRH IPL 2026 Playoffs Qualification Scenario Revealed

SRH now have three league matches remaining. Historically, teams require 14 to 16 points to secure a playoff spot, and Sunrisers Hyderabad now just need one more win from their remaining fixtures.

Hyderabad will play against Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru to reach that mark.

With their current form and net run rate, even just two wins could comfortably make them sit in the top four without relying heavily on net run rate or other results.

However, what becomes crucial is whether SRH can qualify for the top two or not.

Can SRH Qualify For The Top Two Spots In IPL 2026?

SRH's win over Punjab Kings has opened up a strong possibility for the team to push for a top-two finish. If the team manages to win all three remaining matches, they will finish with 20 points, which almost undoubtedly secures a top-two spot on the IPL 2026 points table.

Even if SRH finish with two wins, ending on 18 points, they will still remain strong contenders to play Qualifier 1. The chances become stronger especially if teams like RCB or Rajasthan Royals fail in one or two games in their final stretch.

Adding to this relevance, the upcoming fixtures of the Pat Cummins-led side are against direct competitors, which gives SRH an added advantage.

A win against Gujarat Titans and RCB in particular could act as six-point swings, directly impacting rival teams' chances while strengthening Hyderabad's position.

What If SRH Lose In Their Upcoming Matches?

Even if Sunrisers Hyderabad stumble in one or two matches, they will still have a shot at the playoffs. Finishing with 16 points, where the scenario stands at two wins from their last three games, SRH would still have enough points to secure a top-four spot.

However, if SRH win only one or none of their remaining matches, they could find themselves in a tight spot, potentially needing net run rate and other teams' results to carry them forward into the playoffs.

If the rain gods come into play, that might also hamper SRH's chances for a top-two finish, even if the top-four spot remains largely undisturbed.

The remaining three fixtures on May 12, May 18, and May 22 will play a decisive role in shaping the final standings.

With two away games followed by a potentially high-stakes home clash against RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad's campaign could come down to their consistency in crunch situations.

Nevertheless, the victory against Punjab Kings in the SRH vs PBKS clash has put Hyderabad in control of their own destiny.

If they maintain their consistent form, a top-four spot is almost guaranteed, and even a top-two finish is well within the team's reach.
