Gujarat Giants edged out Delhi Capitals in a nail-biting finish to jump to the second spot on the WPL 2026 points table. Senior pros Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine as well as Indian star Rajeshwari Gayakwad came up clutch for the Giants to overpower Niki Prasad’s late surge for the Capitals.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights from the 17th match of the WPL 2026 season between Gujarat Giants Women vs Delhi Capitals Women, as it panned out at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday, January 27.
Shree Charani takes four, Beth Mooney makes 58 in Giants innings
Gujarat Giants Women opener Sophie Devine struck three confident boundaries to get off to a cracking start in the first couple of overs. The legendary New Zealander raced to 13* before she was knocked over by senior Delhi Capitals pacer Marizanne Kapp.
Anushka Sharma at number three subsequently crafted a swift 54-run partnership with opener Beth Mooney as the Capitals raced to 73-1 around the first nine overs. Sharma belted eight boundaries to slap 39 runs from just 25 balls to lead Capitals’ recovery before having her well-set stay halted by Shree Charani.
Captain Ashleigh Gardner (2 off 4), fellow Australian cricketer Georgia Wareham (11 off 7) and Bharti Fulmali (3 off 5) failed to sustain Giants momentum in the middle order. Amidst tumbling wickets, Beth Mooney remained steadfast in her approach to compile 58 runs from 46 balls in a top-scoring act with seven elegant boundaries.
Mooney’s calculated effort, coupled with Tanuja Kanwar’s fiery 21-run cameo set up path of a competitive Gujarat Giants total, as they charted 174-9 in 20 overs.
For the Delhi Capitals Women, left-arm spinner Shree Charani picked up four wickets in the innings at an expense of just 31 runs, which included three in the final six overs. Chinelle Henry (2-38) also bagged the important wickets of Bharti Fulmali and a burgeoning Tanuja Kanwar. Marizanne Kapp (1-34), Nandani Sharma (1-26) and Minnu Mani (1-21) all chipped in with a wicket each.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sophie Devine jolt Delhi Capitals at 100-6
Delhi Capitals opener Shafali Verma punished Renuka Singh Thakur with a huge 16-run opening over in the run chase. Racing to 14 off 10 with three cracking boundaries, Shafali’s blistering top-order act got curtailed by Gujarat Giants spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad in the third over.
Lizelle Lee struggled to get her timing right as the vintage South African managed to get just 11 off 20 balls before mistiming one off Sophie Devine in the final ball of the powerplay. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues (16 off 16) and Laura Wolvaardt (24 off 23) scored vital runs in the middle overs, but a quadruple-wicket burst from the Giants left Capitals gasping for breath at 100-6.
Rajeshwari knocked over Wolvaardt and Chinelle Henry in quick succession to finish her four-over quota at 3-20. Sophie Devine clean-bowled Rodrigues, and Ashleigh Gardner accounted for Marizanne Kapp for a first-ball duck.
Niki Prasad, Sneh Rana resistance go in vain
Tottering at 100-6 and with 75 runs required from the remaining 33 deliveries, Niki Prasad bludgeoned a quick 24-ball 47 while Sneh Rana blasted 29 off 15 as the two cricketers shared a fighting 70-run stand in just 31 balls.
However, Niki and Rana’s fighting resistance got halted at the brink of the finishing line, with Gujarat Giants sneaking in a thrilling three-run win.
Sophie Devine dismissed both cricketers in the final over to claim figures of 4-37 to complement Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s economical three-fer.
