India recorded a dominant series win over Zimbabwe, sealing the 2nd T20I with a 90-run triumph. Winning the series 2-0, India will take a lot of positives back home. However, unfortunately, Shreyas Iyer, the current Indian T20I skipper, had to announce an unfortunate ending for a shining bright prospect of the Men in Blue.

Prince Yadav was injured while bowling his spell against Zimbabwe during the 2nd T20I on July 25, and he had to walk away from the field mid-spell due to a hamstring injury. Ahead of the 3rd T20I on the next day, i.e., July 26, Shreyas Iyer issued a big verdict on Yadav’s comeback for the final game of the series.

Shreyas Iyer hints at Prince Yadav's exclusion for 3rd T20I vs Zimbabwe

After the match, Iyer attended the post-match presentation, where he was excited about winning the series while also sharing the misfortune regarding Yadav.

Prince injured his leg while bowling during the 7th over. The young talent from Lucknow Super Giants, who has been super impressive ever since his debut in Indian colours, might have to sit out of the final game, as revealed by Shreyas.

It's worth noting that Iyer also hinted at making experiments in India's playing XI for the final dead-rubber, considering the tourists have won the series.

“One of our players got injured unfortunately, so you might see a few changes tomorrow,” Iyer shared after the match.

Who can replace Prince Yadav in India's Playing XI?

Although Iyer didn’t share any name for a change, in the current squad, only Ashok Sharma is the best option on the bench to replace Yadav as a like-for-like pacer. The quick has also impressed in his first T20I with a solid line and length and might be recalled again for the 3rd game as well.

Prince Yadav, meanwhile, was a gem with the ball. Prince made his India debut in the Afghanistan series, where he took three wickets in two matches. He then picked up three wickets in the second T20I against Ireland. During the England series, across both the ODI and T20I formats, Prince managed to bag three wickets.

Meanwhile, in Zimbabwe, after the first two matches of the series, Yadav has already claimed four wickets while maintaining an outstanding economy rate of just 5.44 and a superb strike rate of 8.00, underlining his effectiveness as a pace-bowling option for India.

Shreyas Iyer excited after first series win as India captain

Nevertheless, Shreyas was overwhelmed with the series win after the Ireland and England series humiliation.

“I feel excited. Comprehensive win, brilliant contribution from each and every one. Started from batting, I think the way Ishan and Tilak played was outstanding. I thought 180-200 would be a par score, but we ended up getting 220, which was the icing on the cake.

That's how you have to approach the game, it's about the attitude. Be in the present and try to execute,” Shreyas Iyer shared in the post-match presentation.

How much time will Prince Yadav take to recover?

Usually, hamstring injuries take place over a large portion of the leg after exhaustion kicks in. After consecutive series, Yadav’s workload might have taken a hit, which resulted in the mid-match injury.

Where usual hamstring injuries take weeks to recover, with Prince Yadav currently not having any fixtures for India anytime soon, he will be getting plenty of rest before India meet any other nation for a white-ball contest. India will next face the West Indies in ODIs at the end of September.
