Ashok Sharma, who recently shifted his base from Rajasthan to Gujarat, broke barriers in terms of bowling speed in his maiden international outing. Ashok Sharma made his debut for the Indian team in the first T20I against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. 

Led by Shreyas Iyer, India kick-started their Zimbabwe tour with the T20I series opener in Harare. While the highly anticipated encounter marked Mayank Yadav's comeback, Ashok Sharma's bowling speed on India debut became a talking point.

Gujarat Titans' IPL 2026 star Ashok Sharma started his international career in a slightly underwhelming fashion, conceding ten runs in his first over. However, more than his line and length, Ashok Sharma's bowling speed on India debut grabbed the attention of fans and experts. 

Ashok Sharma delivered his first ball in international cricket at 132 kph, but steadily increased his bowling speed as the over progressed. The right-arm pacer clocked 144 kph in his second attempt before delivering rapidly quick balls at 139, 143, 145 and 147 kph on the subsequent occasions. 

Thus, Ashok Sharma's bowling speed on India debut was 141.67 kph on average in his first over in international cricket.

Ashok Sharma's bowling speed increases with progression of IND Vs ZIM 1st T20I

According to the CREX commentary data, Ashok Sharma maintained an average speed of 144.3 Kph in his second over, registering a 1.85 per cent increase in pace in his first over in international cricket. 

The pacer recorded bowling speeds of 147, 145, 144, 124, 141 and 142Kph in his third over. Therefore, Ashok Sharma's bowling speed on India debut was 140.5 on average in his third over, courtesy of a slower ball which he bowled at 124 kph in a bid to deceive Ryan Burl. 

Generally, the bowling speed of fast bowlers gradually decreases as they get exhausted with the progression of the match. However, Ashok clocked speeds of more than 140 Kph on all six occasions in his final over, showcasing incredible fitness and athleticism.

Ashok Sharma's bowling speed on India debut suggests that the fast bowler had an average pace of 142.5 in his last over. Thus, Ashok Sharma maintained an average speed of 142.24 in his first match for India in international cricket. 

Ashok Sharma bowls at rapid pace, but struggles with line and length

Despite bowling at a searing pace, Ashok Sharma struggled to find control in his first over in international cricket. He started off with a well-targeted hard-length delivery, but followed it up with three full deliveries, with Ben Curran successfully dispatching two of them for boundaries.

After conceding eight runs off his first four balls, Ashok pulled his length back. However, Curran still managed to neutralise him, as the fast bowler finished it around the middle and leg stump, playing into Curran's strength. 

Thus, Ashok, who starred in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 22 wickets in 10 innings, looked slightly off track in his first over in international cricket. Although Ashok justified the tag of being one of India's fastest young bowlers, his persistent struggle to hit the correct line and length paid rich dividends for Zimbabwe. 

On the contrary, Ashok's teammate Mayank Yadav bowled with remarkable control while also maintaining an average speed of 144.5. Mayank's consistency worked wonders for the speedster, as he bagged the prized wickets of Brian Bennett and Dion Myers. 

The Gujarat pacer bowled with much better control in his second and third overs, but looked far from his best in the last over. Overall, he finished his four-over spell with modest figures of none for 29 on a pitch where his teammates consistently troubled the Zimbabwe batters. 

This shows that although Ashok Sharma has raw pace, he must work on his line and length to succeed in international cricket. Speed is not everything in cricket; the sooner Ashok Sharma understands this, the better.
