In a significant development, the ICC released the updated player rankings, rewarding several players for impressive outings in international cricket.

Shreyas Iyer made significant progress despite leading India to four defeats on the UK tour, while Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, and Adil Rashid emerged as notable movers in the updated standings.

Shreyas Iyer gets major boost in ICC T20I rankings

India's newly recruited captain Shreyas Iyer registered two consecutive failures in the two-match series against Ireland. However, the right-handed batter played a valiant knock in the T20I series opener against England, resulting in his rapid rise in the ICC T20I rankings.

Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 189 runs before rain forced the match officials to abandon the game in Chester-le-Street. He followed it up with a useful 22-ball 37 at the Old Trafford, adding crucial points to his tally in the ICC T20I rankings.

Shreyas Iyer's consecutive fighting innings helped him gain 425 places and move up to the 93rd position in the T20I batters' rankings. Although he has yet to win a game as the Indian T20I captain, Iyer made sure his batting heroics didn't go entirely in vain.

Jacob Bethell enters top 10 following Manchester mayhem

Chasing 191, England had a disastrous start to their innings in the Manchester T20I, losing both their openers for ducks. However, Jacob Bethell kept his composure and struck a blazing 46-ball 76, powering the hosts to a thrilling four-wicket win.

The explosive southpaw's game-changing knock at the Old Trafford earned him seven spots in the ICC rankings. Currently, Bethell is placed eighth with 708 points, with Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma still claiming the top two positions.

Adil Rashid, Sam Curran make big gains in ICC rankings

Among other English players, veteran spinner Adil Rashid and allrounder Sam Curran earned big in the updated ICC rankings.

Rashid, who has bagged three wickets in the ongoing India series, moved one place up to the third spot. Meanwhile, Sam Curran gained 12 places in the batting and bowling charts, finishing at 108th and 71st positions, respectively.

Curran, who struck a quick-fire 24-ball 41 in the third T20I and has scalped four wickets against India, also moved six places up to the 13th in the allrounders' list.

Other notable developments in ICC rankings

Talking about the ICC Test rankings, Sri Lanka's Lahiru Udara (up 52 spots to 85th), Kamindu Mendis (up 2 places to 6th), Asitha Fernando (up 2 places to 20th) and West Indies' Justin Greaves (up 14 spots to 49th) and Shai Hope (up 6 places to 51st) were the most significant movers.

Meanwhile, the first ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, which saw the Chevrons dismantle the tourists in a low-scoring thriller, led to plenty of movement in the ODI rankings.

Nahid Rana, who registered a phenomenal six-wicket haul, moved to the 12th spot, while Zimbabwe's pace trio of Brad Evans (up 17 spots to 111), Richard Ngarava (up 1 place to 19th) and Blessing Muzarabani (up 17 spots to 33rd) made rapid strides in the ODI bowlers' list.
