Sanju Samson is going through one of those phases where nothing seems to click. And after yet another low score in the fifth and final T20I of the series against New Zealand, the heat on Samson has only grown louder.
Fans are debating his place, critics are piling on and selection talk is running wild. In the middle of all this noise, Samson’s wife Charulatha Remesh shared a quiet but powerful Instagram story that has now caught everyone’s attention.
Sanju Samson's wife’s Instagram story leaves fans emotional
Charulatha posted an Instagram story where the words were emotional and very clear in intent.
It read: “When all is done & answers fade.. JUST BOW YOUR HEAD AND LET LIFE BE. Because some times have to be accepted not explained ”
No tags. Just a message that felt like a soft shield around a player who is currently taking punches from all directions. In cricket, form comes and goes. But when the noise becomes too loud, these small moments from family often hit hardest.
Samson’s numbers have put him in choppy waters
Let’s not sugarcoat it. Sanju Samson’s series has been rough. Across the five T20Is against New Zealand, he managed only 46 runs in total. The knocks read like a bad dream: 10, 6, 0, 24, and 6.
That is not the return India expects from an opener in a five-match series. Especially not when the team is entering World Cup mode and every match feels like an audition.
Even in the fourth T20I, where he at least showed some intent with a 24, he still couldn’t convert it into something meaningful. And when you keep failing, the rope gets shorter with every game.
Homecoming match turned into heartbreak in Trivandrum
For Samson, the fifth T20I in Thiruvananthapuram was supposed to be a feel-good moment. Home crowd, hometown energy, a chance to silence the noise with one solid innings.
Instead, it turned into another painful chapter. He fell for 6, trying to muscle a big shot across the line, only to get a thick outside edge that went down to deep third. The crowd that wanted fireworks got silence. And Samson, once again, walked back early.
Ishan Kishan has turned the competition into a straight fight
While Samson struggled, Ishan Kishan has grabbed his chance like a street-smart batter who knows how rare opportunities are at this level.
Kishan has returned to the side and made an instant impact. In fact, he capped the series with his maiden T20I century, smashing 103 off 43 balls in the fifth game. Overall, he finished the series with 215 runs at 53.75, striking at 231.18. Those aren’t just good numbers. Those are numbers that scream “pick me”.
And that’s the issue for Samson. When you’re out of form and the guy competing with you is breathing fire, the selection table becomes a pressure cooker.
World Cup selection talk has only intensified
This series wasn’t just about winning. It was also about settling roles before the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Samson was preferred as Abhishek Sharma’s opening partner ahead of even India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill. That shows the backing he was getting.
But since the World Cup squad announcement, Samson hasn’t produced that one “impact innings” that seals the deal. And in T20 cricket, if you don’t score runs, you don’t get patience. It’s as simple as that.
Now with Tilak Varma nearing a comeback, the squeeze gets tighter. India’s management could soon be forced to make a hard call between Samson and Kishan for the matches ahead.
