Salman Agha has been given a clean chit by Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir after the senior all-rounder fell victim to a bizarre run-out against Bangladesh.

Batting on 64* off 62 balls in the second ODI, Agha was run out by Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the visiting Pakistani batter appeared more concerned with locating the ball instead of getting back to his crease.

Even though the Pakistan T20I skipper suffered a rare ‘brain fade’ on the field, he has been backed by Amir, who instead put the blame on the Bangladeshi skipper for failing to uphold the “spirit of the game”.

However, according to the fast bowler, the “real villain” behind the entire controversial incident was a completely different party present at the stadium.

Mohammad Amir bashes on-field umpires over Salman Agha run out

Taking to his YouTube channel, Pakistan paceman Mohammad Amir said that Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz “blocked” Salman Agha from getting back to his crease before breaking the stumps.

The speedster believes that the on-field umpires should have noted this fact before declaring the well-set Pakistani batter ‘out’.

He said, “Mehidy had blocked Agha and inflicted the run-out. Why did the umpires not take note of this fact? The umpires could've prevented the controversy if they had noticed it.”

Mohammad Amir added that the benefit of the doubt should have gone to the batter since he was clearly “blocked” by the Bangladeshi spinner. He further disparaged the umpires, claiming that the umpiring standards are decreasing “day by day”.

He added, “As much as Mehidy was at fault or Agha was at fault, we should also raise questions on the umpires. They could've given the benefit of the doubt to the batter as he had been blocked. Umpiring standards are going down day-by-day. It was clear that the batter had been blocked by the bowler and that is why he couldn't get back to his crease.”

Mohammad Amir questions Bangladesh captain for lack of sportsmanship

Mohammad Amir also questioned Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz for not leading his team front the front and by example. The seasoned fast bowler slammed the Bangladeshi all-rounder, claiming that the latter failed to uphold the sportsman’s spirit of the game.

He added “Bangladesh could've done better. Mehidy should've led from the front and by example. Cricket is a gentleman's game. The sportsman's spirit that we are taught was absent.”

Salman Agha and Mehidy Hasan Miraz controversy explained

During the 39th over of the Pakistan innings in Mirpur on Friday, March 13, Mohammad Rizwan punched back a length ball from Bangladesh spinner and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Salman Agha, who was batting at 64* from 62 balls at the time, was at the non-striker’s end.

As it happened, Miraz collected the ball and broke the stumps at his end, at a time when Salman was well outside his crease.

Interestingly, before the Bangladeshi all-rounder could cleanly collect the ball, the ‘Men in Green’ batter attempted to collect the ball himself in a bid to give it back to the bowler.

An argument ensued between the two parties after the incident, and several Pakistan fans and cricket experts bashed Mehidy Hasan Miraz for the run out.

Pakistan thrash Bangladesh to level series

In spite of the runout controversy, Pakistan eclipsed Bangladesh by 128 runs (DLS method) in Mirpur to level the three-match ODI series 1-1

Batting first, the visitors mounted 274 courtesy of half-centuries from opener Maaz Sadaqat and Salman Agha himself. Mohammad Rizwan also chipped in with a crucial 44 in the middle order.

In turn, Haris Rauf and Sadaqat picked up three wickets each as Pakistan folded up Bangladesh for just 114 in 23.3 overs.
