In the highly anticipated first match of the Tri-Series 2026, India A had a shaky start. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad and Priyansh Arya looked to revive the innings, the duo were involved in a horrible run-out after adding 53 runs for the third wicket.

Tilak Varma won the toss early in the morning at Dambulla, looking to post a mammoth total against the hosts, Sri Lanka A.

However, the Boys in Blue had an unthinkable start to the innings, with the star boy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prabhsimran Singh getting dismissed in a jiffy.

After losing Sooryavanshi and Singh in quick succession, India A got a reliable pair in the middle. Priyansh Arya came out in his ever-attacking mode, while Ruturaj Gaikwad brought assurance and stability to the partnership.

The duo matched each other stroke-by-stroke, adding 53 runs off as many deliveries between them. However, a miscalculation brought curtains down for the youngster.

In the 13th over of the innings, Gaikwad first attacked spinner Ravindu Fernando for a massive six over long-on. Then, he looked to snap a brace while pushing the ball through point.

The senior statesman was keen on bagging a double, but Arya, aware of the field, never left the crease after completing the first one.

Gaikwad, on the other hand, ran down to the striker's end. The southpaw couldn't drag his bat inside the crease before his partner, as the wicketkeeper had stepped onto his blade.

The keeper, then, rolled the ball towards the bowler, who ran the number three out in a Pakistan-style dismissal, as the Pakistan players for infamous for such run-outs.

Flop show for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

After a brilliant IPL 2026, the gung-ho Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named in the India A squad for the ongoing Tri-Series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. Moreover, the wonder kid has earned his maiden India call-up, named in the squads for the United Kingdom tour and the Asian Games 2026.

As Sooryavanshi slammed 776 runs at an average of 48.50 with an incredible strike rate of 237.31 in IPL 2026, he lured the selectors, as he got his maiden break to don the Indian colours.

However, he failed to leave a mark in the first match of the Tri-Series 2026, after he mistimed a full delivery towards mid-off, where the fielder plucked a wonderful catch. The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 14 off 11 balls, which fans also recreated.
