Bhuvneshwar Kumar is set to take the field for India as the Men in Blue play a five-match T20I series in New Zealand, scheduled to begin on Thursday (October 22). Rohit Sharma, India’s former captain, has played plenty of matches alongside Bhuvneshwar in the past and did not miss a chance to hype up his much-anticipated comeback.
Although Bhuvneshwar was picked in India’s T20I squad for the decider against West Indies and even made the playing XI, the 36-year-old did not get a chance to bowl a single over due to rain. Now, with India facing New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, he will likely get the chance to show the world he is not finished just yet.
Bhuvneshwar’s Comeback Gets Rohit Sharma’s Approval With Akshaye Khanna Twist
During the Family Full House with Rohit Sharma show, Rohit spoke with Bollywood actor Chunky Panday. There, Chunky mentioned the name of Akshaye Khanna, who had seen stellar success after Dhurandhar. He also noted that Khanna had been out of the limelight for quite some time.
While praising Akshaye Khanna as an actor, Rohit Sharma added that his career reminded him of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who last played for India in November 2022.
“New Zealand tour is coming up. I hope he (Bhuvneshwar) performs really well,” Rohit said.
How Bhuvneshwar Kumar Turned His India Comeback Dream Into Reality
Despite the fact that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spent INR 10.75 crore on Bhuvneshwar a couple of years ago, many had written him off in terms of a possible comeback in India colours.
However, he shut down all the critics and let the ball do the talking.
In IPL 2025, Bhuvi took 17 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.2. His numbers improved drastically the following season, when he picked up 28 wickets in 16 outings at an economy rate of 7.95.
No wonder the BCCI could no longer overlook him, as RCB rode on Bhuvi’s heroics to win the IPL title not just once, but twice in two years.
