Ben Stokes has dismissed speculation about a possible return for the 2027 Ashes. The England all-rounder responded directly to reports suggesting he could reverse his international retirement.
The 35-year-old took to social media to slam the rumours, calling the claims misleading and insisting there was no truth to the Ashes comeback stories while urging fans not to believe them.
Ben Stokes Slams Media Report Of His Ashes Return
Ben Stokes has hit back at a media report suggesting he could reverse his international retirement for the 2027 Ashes. He directly responded to claims that he was open to a comeback under certain conditions.
The report suggested that Stokes could consider an Ashes return if those conditions were met, sparking widespread discussion among cricket fans. However, the former England test captain quoted the report on X (formerly Twitter) and dismissed the claims as misleading.
"Please don’t waste your £1 to read this…it’s a completely misleading headline and no truth to the Ashes story what so ever!” Stokes wrote in his response, firmly rejecting the claims about his potential return," Stokes wrote on his X account.
The report was published by the UK-based i Paper as an exclusive and carried a £1 paywall to access the full article. Stokes’ public response has now challenged the report, shutting down speculation about his possible return for the 2027 Ashes.
Ben Stokes’ Response Puts Ashes Comeback Rumours To Bed
Ben Stokes brought an end to his international career in June 2026 after serving as England's Test captain since 2022. He played 122 Tests, scoring 7,273 runs and taking 252 wickets, leaving behind a remarkable all-round record.
However, retirement from international cricket has not meant walking away from the game entirely. Stokes continued playing first-class cricket for Durham, while also exploring franchise opportunities, including a Big Bash League stint with Adelaide Strikers.
Stokes has firmly dismissed the Ashes comeback rumours, making it clear that he has no intention of coming out of retirement for the 2027 series. Unless his stance changes again, he is set to remain retired, but only time will tell.
