Team India will be in action in no time, with the one-off Test match against Afghanistan, starting from June 6 at New Chandigarh. The fans are thrilled to witness the Men in Blue donning the whites in the longest format, and they are equally excited to see Rohit Sharma in the Indian colours.
The former Indian captain sustained a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026, which kept him away from action for almost half of the tournament.
Although Rohit has been picked in the IND vs AFG ODI squad, his selection is only subject to fitness. Nevertheless, the three-match ODI series will kickstart on June 13 at Dharamsala.
Rohit Sharma informs PCA about Mohali camp
Rohit Sharma has got a small breather after the IPL 2026 and before the start of the IND vs AFG ODI series. This break will allow the 39-year-old batter to refill his cylinders before he starts his preparations for the upcoming series.
According to a renowned journalist from Times of India, Pratyush Raj, the Indian star batter has informed the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) about training at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali for two days, i.e. June 8 and 9.
The Mohali stadium is hosting any of three ODIs between India and Afghanistan, but it is near Dharamsala, which may help the Indian opener acclimatise to the conditions before the three-game series.
BCCI asks Rohit Sharma to report at CeO before IND vs AFG ODIs
Rohit Sharma may have to get into loggerheads with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) only to train in Mohali.
If reports from Sports Tak's Nitin K Srivastav are to be believed, then the apex body has asked the Mumbai to report at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to work on his "running load".
"Update on Rohit. Post IPL, he was given a programme to improve his running load and enhance it now he has been asked to report CoE to get his Clearance for RTP," the Sports Tak journalist wrote on his X handle.
Rohit Sharma's recent history with fitness
There has been no update on Rohit's plan for a visit to Bengaluru, but he may have to travel. If so, he will need to get his clearances sorted, as he will have to join the Indian squad by next week.
It is worth noting that the stylish right-hander has worked tremendously on his fitness, but he faced an unfortunate injury during the IPL 2026, where he scored 283 runs in nine innings.
There are also speculation around the Indian team management not looking at Rohit for the 2027 World Cup, but the star opener has time and again spoke about playing the marquee tournament.
