Rajasthan Royals' IPL 2026 playoff hopes were dented further as the Riyan Parag-led side was thumped by a spirited Delhi Capitals team in the 62nd group-stage match of the tournament.
Ace allrounder Ravindra Jadeja was sidelined from the crucial clash, missing his first game of the season.
Batting first, the Royals were restricted to 193 runs despite an outstanding start, with Mitchell Starc running through their lineup with a sensational four-wicket haul. In response, DC chased the target quite convincingly, staying alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race.
After the game concluded, Rajasthan Royals' coach exposed Riyan Parag, revealing the real reason why Ravindra Jadeja was snubbed from the RR playing XI vs DC.
Riyan Parag cited 'workload management' the reason for Jadeja's absence
At toss, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag revealed that the team management had rested Ravindra Jadeja to manage his workload.
"Tonight, we have one change. Jaddu bhai misses out due to his load management and Ravi Singh debuts for us," Parag had stated after losing the toss.

Riyan Parag's claim that Ravindra Jadeja was rested to manage his workload seemed suspicious, given that the Royals had an eight-day break between their eleventh and twelfth IPL 2026 fixtures.
Parag was exposed after the game concluded, with Rajasthan Royals' coach Vikram Rathour explaining the exact reason behind Jadeja's absence in their playing XI against Delhi Capitals.
Vikram Rathour reveals Ravindra Jadeja's injury; Riyan Parag exposed
In the post-match press conference, RR's batting coach, Vikram Rathour, revealed that Ravindra Jadeja was actually struggling with a niggle in his knee.
As the former Indian team coach reckoned, the minor fitness setback forced Ravindra Jadeja out of the RR XI, with the seasoned campaigner warming the bench in the riveting contest at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
"Ravindra Jadeja had a niggle in the knee so we thought to give rest for a game," Vikram Rathour told the media after RR's sixth loss in the tournament.
Are Rajasthan Royals managing Ravindra Jadeja's injury for India vs Afghanistan series?
Ravindra Jadeja is one of the fittest cricketers India has ever produced. However, as he's 37, Jadeja has lately struggled with a knee injury, which has sidelined him from several crucial international assignments.
The Indian team is getting ready to take on Afghanistan in a one-off Test and three ODI matches. Jadeja has indeed retired from T20Is; however, he remains a vital cog for India in the longer formats.
Therefore, as the 37-year-old is expected to participate in the Afghanistan series, the Royals' management might have taken a cautious approach and rested him against Delhi Capitals.
Having said that, the extent of Jadeja's knee injury has yet to be disclosed. Several reports have even claimed that the ace cricketer has a direct toss-up with Axar Patel for the spin all-rounder's spot in the ODI XI, with Team India beginning its preparations for the 2027 World Cup edition.
Meanwhile, the defeat to Delhi Capitals pushed Rajasthan Royals to the verge of a group-stage elimination in IPL 2026. Led by Parag, they will take on Lucknow Super Giants in their 13th match of the season on Tuesday, May 19.
