In Pakistan cricket’s often tense environment, where public criticism can quickly turn into personal disputes, a fresh controversy has surfaced involving explosive claims and stern rebuttals. This time, two former Pakistan captains have found themselves at odds with ex-cricketer Ahmed Shehzad over his repeated remarks.
Shehzad, a charismatic and outspoken cricketing personality, has often been vocal about Pakistan’s internal affairs and has repeatedly criticised the PSL. During his special appearances on sports shows, the former opening batter has also targeted several Pakistan players, and has alleged favouritism in national team’s selection matters.
Ahmed Shehzad at legal loggerheads with Pakistan legends
Ahmed Shehzad has landed in legal trouble after making some serious allegations on Pakistan’s cricketing matters. Among those taking exception to his remarks, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has stepped forward, initiating legal action against Shehzad.
It is worth noting that the former Pakistan cricketer has been extremely critical of Babar, and has accused the modern-day legend of poor leadership, favouritism and damaging the interests of the national team.

As per reports, Babar Azam began collecting evidence in June 2024, i.e., soon after the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The report also states that the legendary Pakistani batter has been collecting evidence with the help of the PCB’s legal team.
Pakistani journalist Saleem Khaliq has revealed that an investigation has been initiated against Ahmed Shehzad under cybercrime laws, and he has been summoned for questioning.
Misbah-ul-Haq joins Babar Azam to move legally against Shehzad
Another former Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq, has also joined Babar Azam in taking a legal action against Ahmed Shehzad for making controversial remarks on a television show.
The issue is linked to certain statements Shehzad made about rising star Haseebullah Khan, which current selector Misbah has repeatedly denied. A report states that Misbah-ul-Haq is challenging the claims, terming them “false and damaging to his reputation.”
What did Shehzad said about Misbah-ul-Haq and Haseebullah Khan?
Shehzad has claimed that talented Pakistan players like Usama Mir and Haseebullah Khan have been repeatedly sidelined by the PCB selection committee despite coming up with strong performances.
Targeting selector Misbah-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan opener said “Haseebullah goes back to play domestic cricket and gets benched there. And he thinks, “Every match matter for me because I want to play for Pakistan. I just scored runs at an average of fifty for Pakistan Shaheens. Every game is important for me, so why am I not playing?”
Shehzad questions PSL standards
Amidst the ongoing PSL 2026 season in Pakistan, Ahmed Shehzad has also criticised the tournament and has compared it with India’s IPL. He pointed out that many overseas players pull out of their PSL commitments to join IPL franchises for money.
He also highlighted the recent incident, where the colour of the ball changed to pink in the opening match of the tournament. Shehzad said “Is it a professional league or PING PONG tournament? Did you just get a local tailor to stitch a kit that literally bled pink color? From zero fans in stadium to the embarrassing captain's PC, it was pathetic.”
As of now, it remains to be seen how the outspoken former Pakistan cricketer will respond to the legal proceedings and whether the matter escalates further in the coming days.
