The European T20 Premier League got underway at Sportpark Duivesteijn in Voorburg, with Amsterdam Flames facing Rotterdam Dockers in the opening game. The tournament has brought several big T20 names together.

Among the notable names in action was RCB star Tim David, who featured for Amsterdam Flames. However, the Australian batter could not make the desired impact in the tournament opener.

Amsterdam Flames, after being asked to bat first, had a shaky start, and one of their marquee players, Tim David, arrived at No. 5 during a crucial phase. Amsterdam had just lost Curtis Campher and needed a partnership to rebuild their innings.

With Roelof van der Merwe producing a strong spell, David looked to ease the pressure immediately. However, he tried to attack from his third ball and found David Wiese near the boundary, departing for just one run from three deliveries.

Tim David’s Failure Leaves Amsterdam Flames In Trouble

Tim David’s early dismissal proved to be a big blow for Amsterdam Flames, leaving them in a difficult position as they slipped to 79 for four wickets down by the halfway mark. His failure added pressure on Bas de Leede to rebuild the innings.

De Leede, however, responded brilliantly, taking responsibility through the middle and death overs to register the first half-century in ETPL history. He eventually made 75 off 53 deliveries, helping Amsterdam Flames post 157/8 from their 20 overs.

However, Tim David’s failure remained one of the biggest talking points from the innings. Despite Amsterdam boasting several international names, the RCB finisher is arguably their biggest global T20 star and him making a quiet start is a big setback for them.

Tim David’s 2026 campaign has been a difficult one after his outstanding 2025 in T20 cricket. His struggles with Australia at the T20 World Cup continued into his post-IPL assignments, including a below-par campaign with Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2026.

His quiet ETPL opener now adds another concern, especially with the big-hitting batter still searching for runs. Tim David remains one of the most dangerous T20 players when in rhythm, but his recent performances have not reflected that reputation.

For RCB, the hope will be that Tim David can rediscover his best touch soon. His ability to change games within a few deliveries remains a major asset, and a return to form would be welcome for both the franchise and its fans.
