Shreyanka Patil’s ripper on Saturday evening in Adelaide ended Ellyse Perry’s 350th international match for Australia in a disaster as she was sent packing for just 1 off 3. The Aussies were left 17 runs short in the decisive 3rd T20I of the series, and India clinched the series by 2-1.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who employ both Perry and Patil in their WPL franchise, were quick to pounce on the opportunity and celebrate Perry’s wicket with Patil. They brought up one of Patil’s old tweets, which served as a great reminder that the sport remains the greatest leveller.

RCB celebrates Perry’s wicket as Patil cleans up WPL winner
Hours after Shreyanka went through Perry’s gates in the 4th over, as the batter charged down the wicket and the ball crashed into the middle stump, RCB quoted one of Patil’s old tweets. The mentioned tweet was made by the bowler back in January 2024, when the Australian legend was playing her 300th match for Australia.
Patil had written about her wish to get Perry out in her milestone match; however was hit for a six by the Aussie, winning her team the match. Patil had openly called Perry the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) at the time.
However, as luck would have it, Patil got rid of the batter in another milestone game for her and helped her team win the series with a miserly spell of 3/22 (4). To commemorate the moment, RCB wrote, “That’s cricket. Compete hard. Respect harder,” and reminded everyone to pursue their targets.
Notably, recently Perry had also skipped the WPL season at the last minute, leaving RCB thinking of her replacements in the auction. While RCB found their momentum without the legendary allrounder, it looked like Perry missed out on some game time ahead of the India series as she could only score 28 runs in 3 innings.
Shreyanka Patil’s memorable return to India blues
Before the ongoing series against Australia, the off-spinner last played for India in October 2024 before suffering a list of injuries. Her struggles began with a fractured finger in July 2024, but she made it to the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. However, she soon sustained Grade 3 shin splints in both legs, which kept her away from the game for around 11 months.
She subsequently missed the WPL 2025 and the remainder of the season, resulting in missing out on the historic World Cup 2025 as well. She then made her return for the WCPL and eventually the WPL and won the latter with the RCB to return to the Indian team with an 11-wicket season.
Having lost the second T20I, which squared up the series, she helped India win the series with 3/22 in the final T20I at Adelaide. The bowler got rid of the in-form Georgia Voll on the second ball of her spell, followed by Perry and Anabel Sutherland.
India set eyes on ODIs after T20I series win
After clinching the three-match T20I series on February 21, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian Women’s team will now go to Brisbane to play the first of the three ODI matches of the tour. Previously, they haven’t won any WODI series in Australia. They repeated their 2015/16 feat with the T20I series win and will now look to create history in the 50-over format.
Following the Brisbane match, they will head to Hobart for the last two ODIs before a solitary Test in Perth.
