Ravichandran Ashwin, known for his wit, outspokenness and tactical ball knowledge, has joined the commentary box for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) after his retirement from Indian cricket.

True to his nature, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend has been active on social media, sharing his thoughts on the good and bad of the league. And with CSK performing below par, he has not backed down from taking shots against his former IPL franchise.

Recently, Ashwin also spoke about MS Dhoni’s unusual absence from the IPL 2026. Meanwhile, he has also questioned the CSK team management for using Matthew Short over Akeal Hosein on a couple of occasions.

Fan alleges Ashwin for thrash talking CSK player

The Ravichandran Ashwin-Matthew Short saga has been quite popular on social media, with fans being divided on the internet. While some of Ashwin's admirers are finding criticism over Short fair, others are questioning the former Indian cricketer.

A X user shared a post on his handle where he used a hypothetical situation that may unfold in the upcoming season of the Major League Cricket (MLC 2026). In that hypothetical situation, the user stated that if Short decides to bench Ashwin because of the criticism.

It is worth noting that the Indian star is deemed to play under Matthew Short’s captaincy for San Francisco Unicorns in MLC 2026.

"Imagine Matt Short is seeing all of Ashwin's videos that are talking trash on him and decides to bench Ashwin in MLC. He is your captain, Ash," the user tweeted.

Ashwin shuts down a fan over false remarks

Ravichandran Ashwin decided to reply to the user and used his wit to answer back. He replied with all savagery, denying all the false allegations circulating on social media.

"As if I am worried about playing every game at this stage of my career. Secondly, trash-talking or making a personal remark is not my style. Whatever you see on X suggesting I have gone against someone is purely false, and if u are ever interested in seeing what I said, pls go watch my videos. Can't believe how much false reporting is done on this platform. This is a game I love, and i will continue to be in a state of contribution," Ashwin wrote on X while resharing the above-mentioned post.

When CSK's Matthew Short masterstroke backfired

Matthew Short has played two games in the IPL 2026, CSK losing both the matches, and the Aussie all-rounder failing miserably. After playing the campaign-opener, CSK brought in him as a tactical call against SRH.

Short, playing over Akeal Hosein, was introduced to bowl with the new ball and bowled two good overs against the likes of Travis Head, his countrymen, and Abhishek Sharma. However, in his third over, he gave away 25 runs, when Abhishek tonked him during his record half-century for SRH. As a result, CSK's masterstroke backfired.

Nevertheless, after winning three in eight matches, CSK will take on MI in their next outing at Chepauk on Saturday (May 2).
