Punjab Kings (PBKS) are playing like the team to beat in this Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). As they mustered against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Mullanpur, it was their maiden defeat of the season.

Despite putting a total of 222/4 on the board, Punjab crawled with the ball. Initially, the gung-ho opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set the game away, before Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Dubey pulled off a heist in the last minutes.

After the massive defeat, RR's social media team started taking a mickey of PBKS, who themselves have been quite buzzy throughout this season.

How RR mocked PBKS after winning?

Social media tussles among franchises have been just another thing in the IPL now, with every team mocking the other team's fanbase for the engagement. As RR defeated PBKS in Mullanpur, the one-time champions posted a series of posts on their X handle mocking the Kings.

It all started when Punjab posted a meme after Arshdeep Singh dismissed the ever-attacking Sooryavanshi, but only after recieving a beating from the 15-year-old batter

After the defeat, the Royals replied to the post with an old video of Sooryavanshi, where he says, "Punjabi gaana nahi samajh mein aa raha hai, guys. Abhi Bhojpuri lagega! (I am not able to understand Punjabi songs, so I will dance to Bhojpuri music)".

Additionally, RR also made fun of a 12-year-old post of Bollywood megastar Salman Khan, in which he, unaware, asked whether the Preity Zinta-co-owned franchise won the IPL 2014. Referring to the old post, the Royals posted a video featuring Donovan Ferreira, saying "Sorry Bhai, aaj nahi! (No brother, not today)".

Moreover, Rajasthan also recreated the iconic meme making fun of the PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer's sister, Shresta Iyer, who trolled KKR, mentioning, "Punjabis have a big heart" after the washout game in Kolkata. The RR admin posted a video stating that "We, Rajasthani, also are big-hearted but we didn't give two points".

Harpreet Brar issues warning for RR

RR's series of mocking memes riled up PBKS' left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar, who is quite active on social media himself, along with Mohit Rathi. In a video circulating on social media, he is seen warning the Rajasthan-based franchise politely, stating, “Be ready for the day, we come after you”.

"They have posted many reels against us after the game. But, I geniunely want to tell them that fortunes can turn anyday. Be ready for the day, we come after you... I will tell you after when we beat you," Harpreet Brar said while jokingly replying to RR.

Harpreet, who played just one game this season, featured in the PBKS vs RR match, where he bowled an impressive spell of four overs. Although the left-arm spinner couldn't bag a wicket, he only went for 25 runs and controlled the chase in the middle overs.

The 30-year-old spinner complimented nicely to Yuzvendra Chahal, who snapped three big wickets from the other end. However, the Punjab pace battery failed to defend the total in the death overs, as it was achieved in 19.2 overs. Despite the win, the centerpoint became Riyan Parag’s vaping episode, for which the BCCI has handed him a 25% fine as the punishment.

What's next for PBKS in IPL 2026?

After eight matches this season, PBKS have already bagged 13 points and sit at the top of the points table. After their maiden defeat, they have a brief break before taking on the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 3).

With six more league games to go, Punjab just need three victories to certainly get qualified.
