Ravichandran Ashwin may have retired from international cricket, but the former India spinner continues to make headlines with his opinions. From his YouTube channel to broadcast punditry, Ashwin has remained an influential voice in the cricketing world.

This time, Ashwin has once again attracted attention with a strong opinion on India's greatest Test batters. His choices have surprised many fans and created a buzz online, particularly because of a legend’s notable omission from his top three.

R Ashwin Reveals Where Virat Kohli Ranks Among India's Best Test Batters

Ravichandran Ashwin often makes headlines with his opinions on his YouTube channel, but this time, he featured in a social media video for Cricinfo. The video focused on where Virat Kohli ranks among India's greatest Test batters according to Ashwin.

Cricinfo first asked Ashwin whether Kohli would feature among India's top 20 Test batters, and he immediately said yes. He was then asked about the top 10 and top five, with Ashwin again confidently confirming Kohli's place.

The biggest question came when Ashwin was asked whether Kohli makes his top three. The former India spinner again said yes, placing his former teammate and captain among India's three greatest Test batters. However, the real twist came with his next answer.

R Ashwin Leaves Sunil Gavaskar Out Of India's All-Time Top 3 Test Batters

After confirming that Virat Kohli makes his top three, Cricinfo asked Ashwin to name his three greatest Indian Test batters. Ashwin picked Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli, leaving one legendary name surprisingly outside his list.

While Tendulkar and Dravid were familiar choices, Sunil Gavaskar's omission created the biggest talking point. The former India opener was not included in Ashwin's top three, despite being one of the country's greatest Test batters and a pioneer of Indian cricket.

Gavaskar finished his Test career with 10,122 runs in 125 matches at an average of 51.12, including 34 centuries. He was the first batter in Test history to reach 10,000 runs, underlining his enormous contribution to Test cricket.

R Ashwin Continues To Make Headlines After Retirement

Ravichandran Ashwin retired from international cricket in December 2024, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious career with India. However, the former spinner has remained closely connected with cricket through his YouTube channel, broadcasting and regular analysis since retirement.

Recently, Ashwin attracted attention after suggesting former England captain Eoin Morgan could be a strong contender for the CSK head coach role after Stephen Fleming's departure. Now, his latest opinion has once again placed him in the spotlight.

Leaving Sunil Gavaskar outside his top three Indian Test batters is definitely going to catch many Indian cricket fans off guard. Gavaskar's 774 runs in his debut Test series remain an Indian record, while he is the only Indian batter to score over 700 runs in a Test series twice.
