Why Should DC Initiate Marcus Stoinis Trade Talk With PBKS For IPL 2027 After The Hundred?

The Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the IPL 2026 points table, and the team lacked quality on their side as they once again failed to deliver the goods. Led by Axar Patel, the Capitals couldn’t capitalise and had yet another disappointing IPL campaign.

Their batters crumbled under pressure, and the spin bowling lacked a cutting edge as the team now aims for an overhaul before the IPL 2027 begins. Their fast bowling was an issue to some extent, and the team also had finishing issues; the two worrying points could be solved by one man- Marcus Stoinis.

Stoinis plays for Southern Brave in The Hundred, and the franchise is co-owned by the Delhi Capitals owners. Hence, the DC management would know all his strengths, and could be tempted to go after him, especially after witnessing a stellar campaign from him.

Before talking about why DC needs him, here are the weaknesses that the Delhi Capitals need to address before IPL 2027.

What issues did the Delhi Capitals have in IPL 2026?

• From top to bottom, the Capitals had major issues in their team. Barring KL Rahul, the team lacked a quality opener, someone who can take the attack to the opposition.
• Moreover, they used Tristan Stubbs and David Miller as finishers, and neither could do the job. Stubbs is mainly a number 4 batter, and Miller was even dropped from the playing XI, midway through the IPL 2026.
• Also, their bowling wasn’t up to the mark, as Axar Patel and others failed to take wickets at crucial junctures. Barring Mitch Starc and Lungi Ngidi, the others failed, as DC failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs.
• However, the two key areas that need urgent repair work are the finishing and wicket-taking departments.

How Marcus Stoinis can solve DC's two important weaknesses

DC should try and lure Stoinis in a trade deal, and it could be a smart signing by the franchise to cover their weaknesses.

• As stats reveal, Stoinis has been one of the best finishers in the IPL and has an impeccable record at number 6 and 7 as a finisher.

• In 19 matches at number 6, the Aussie batter has slammed 464 runs, with a strike rate of 154.67. The numbers improve as we go down to the number 7 spot.
• At 7, the Australian all-rounder has racked up 219 runs in 14 matches, with an improved strike rate of 180.99.
• Hence, he can be used at either number 6 or number 7 by the Delhi Capitals if they somehow get their hands on him.

Not only with the bat, but the all-rounder is equally potent with the ball, and the stats reveal the reality.

In the IPL, he has not been used much with the ball, but in the BBL and The Hundred, Stoinis has done tremendously well.

• 10 wickets in The Hundred and 15 in the BBL 2025-26 define Stoinis’ bowling journey in recent franchise tournaments. Moreover, he also scalped 16 wickets in nine matches in MLC 2026, as Stoinis has delivered the goods with the ball as well.
• The economy rate in the two tournaments has also been exemplary, and DC could use him in the middle overs, as he can solve their wicket-taking issues.

Trade deal, or buy in the auction, how Delhi Capitals can buy Stoinis?

Stoinis was bought for 11 crores by the Punjab Kings, and it is fair to say that the team has not utilised his ability to perfection.

He was hardly used with the ball and was not trusted with the bat either; hence, don’t be surprised if the team looks to trade the Australian superstar to get their 11 crores back.

At 36, the Australian player is not getting any younger, and the franchise might want to trade him before IPL 2027 to get a younger player in return. Stoinis might not be a long-term solution for DC, but even in the short-term, he can be a solid choice to cover the finishing and bowling weakness.

DC can offer one of their younger players in order to get an experienced Stoinis into their lineup. He can bat at number 6, and will easily give four quality overs.
