The report states that Basit Ali complained of pain and discomfort in his chest and was subsequently taken to a Karachi-based hospital for emergency treatment.

It was later revealed that he had suffered a heart attack, which required an angioplasty on a priority. The medical team expertly handled the situation, performing the surgery on time and preventing Basit Ali's health from deteriorating further.

Pakistan Cricketers who have suffered heart attack

Notably, Basit Ali is not the first cricketer from Pakistan to suffer a heart attack. The legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq is one of the most high-profile cricketers who had a cardiac arrest in September 2021. He also underwent an angioplasty in Lahore before being discharged from the hospital.

Pakistan batter Abid Ali, who opened the innings on the England tour in 2020, suffered a heart attack while batting in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match in 2021. Known for his gritty batting at the top order, Abid Ali was diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and underwent successful angioplasty procedures before making a comeback to competitive cricket.

Wasim Raja is another prominent Pakistani cricketer who suffered a cardiac arrest on the cricket field. Raja, 54 then, experienced discomfort in his chest while playing a senior club game in England back in 2006. While Inzamam and Abid Ali survived the health scare, Wasim Raja sadly passed away following the tragic incident.
