The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will soon be revamping its central contracts list. Pakistan’s all-format head coach Mike Hesson, however, has recommended a bunch of young Pakistan stars to be included in the list for the upcoming 2026-27 cricket season.

While the PCB is reportedly still deciding which of the experienced names to retain in the new contract, senior players like Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq could be among those left out from the list.

Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq likely to be axed from PCB’s central contracts

Senior Pakistan cricketers like Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were among the seven players dropped from the Pakistan squad midway into their away three-match Test series in England a couple of months ago.

In turn, the PCB announced seven replacements, including several uncapped or returning stars, in the Pakistan squad for the third and final Test of their tour.

It now appears that Rizwan and Imam could also be removed by the PCB from the Pakistan’s central contract for the 2026-27 season in favour of youngsters.

According to a report by India Today, head coach Mike Hesson has already recommenced several young Pakistan cricketers to be named in the new central contract.

“Expect a few of the experienced seniors to be dropped from the central contracts list this year.” according to India Today.

While Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq are doubtful to retain their places in the Pakistan central contract, fellow senior men like Shaheen Afridi, Babar Azam, Sahabzada Farhan, Salman Agha Saud Shakeel, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman are all set to feature in the list once again.

It is worth noting that the PCB was scheduled to announce its new central contract list earlier this year, considering the previous contract expired on July 31.

Which Pakistan youngsters will be named in central contracts over Mohammad Rizwan and Imam?

The report indicates that Mike Hesson has suggested several youngsters to the PCB to be included in their next central contract list.

With the contract status of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq currently in doubt owing to their recent struggles in international cricket, Hesson has  recommended players like Arafat Minhas, Saad Baig, Hasan Nawaz, Akif Javed, Ali Reza, Ahsan Daniyal, Sufiyan Muqeem, Maaz Sadaqat, Razaullah, Azan Avais, Imran Randhawa, Abdullah Fazal and Ghazi Ghori to the board.

As of now, it remains to be seen whether the PCB will remove Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq from the central contracts as the board prepares the Pakistan cricket team for their upcoming 2026-27 season.
