Babar Azam gets trolled for poor batting [Source: X]
Babar Azam's struggles in the Pakistan Tri-Series continued in the final against Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 31.
Having failed to convert his starts into substantial scores throughout the competition, the right-handed batter suffered another setback when he was dismissed for a duck. The internet wasn’t happy with the development as fans rained down trolling for the Pakistan veteran.
Babar Azam handed a duck in PAK vs SL Tri-Series Final
Babar walked out to bat at number three after Pakistan lost an early wicket in the 2nd over. However, his stay lasted just five deliveries as Dilshan Madushanka removed him in the fourth over of the innings.
Bowling a full delivery outside off stump, Madushanka tempted Babar into playing an expansive cover drive. The Pakistan batter went after it but could only produce a thick outside edge.
Pavan Rathnayake, stationed wide of the slip cordon, reacted sharply to take the catch. Although the fielder had to juggle the ball before completing the effort, he managed to hold on.
The umpires referred the decision upstairs to check whether the catch was clean, and the replays confirmed Rathnayake had taken it safely. Babar was sent back for a duck, leaving Pakistan in further trouble.
This added fuel to the fire of internet as they didn’t hold back to troll Babar Azam:
“They’re pinpointing technical faults in Babar Azam. Can’t believe someone can have such a bizarre downfall. Someone who was perfectly suited to his technique now has several flaws while batting. A lesson that pride and ego should always be put to a side.” - @ayannn_ali_
“Time to say goodbye to Babar Azam in ODIs. If PCB is serious about Pakistan cricket and WC 2027, bring in Kamran Ghulam or Saud Shakeel” - @IamRFJ07
“Once again, Babar Azam proved today that he is a fraud of a player. After getting out, he looks at his bat as if the problem lies with the bat rather than his own skills. The only people more shameless than him are his fans, who will continue to support him despite all this.” - @curseddposts
The dismissal added to what has been an underwhelming tournament for the senior batter. Across his five innings in the Tri-Series, Babar managed just 118 runs at an average of 23.60 and a strike rate of 74.21.
Babar Azam endures difficult 2026 in ODIs with consistent low scores
Babar's struggles in the Tri-Series are part of a wider run of inconsistent performances in ODI cricket during 2026. Before the final against Sri Lanka, he had scored 243 runs across seven innings at an average of 34.71 in 2026.
His returns against Australia earlier in the year included scores of 69, 16 and 40. He then began the Tri-Series with 45 against Sri Lanka, followed by 34 against England. However, his subsequent innings brought scores of 10 and 29, before the duck in the final added to his disappointing run.
Moreover, his inability to maintain momentum and turn promising starts into match-defining innings has put his recent form under the spotlight, with an average of only 34.71 this year in the 50-over format.
