Maaz Sadaqat added in Pakistan ODI squad [Source: AFP]
In the latest development, the Pakistan team has released spinner Sufiyan Moqim from the tri-series ODI squad, and the wily bowler will return to domestic cricket. On the other hand, a report from journalist Sohail Imran added that talented youngster Maaz Sadaqat has been added as cover for players carrying a niggle.
The Lahore pitch is likely to be conducive for the batters, and the spinners are unlikely to play a role on that surface. As a result, the PCB has released Moqim, and an extra batter has been drafted into the side in case of an injury.
Run-feast likely on Lahore pitch as Pakistan release Moqim
Historically, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has been helpful for the batters with plenty of runs on offer. The track remains flat, and the batters enjoy playing at the venue. The spinners have very little help, and as a result, the management decided to release Sufiyan Moqim, who might not get turn on this wicket.
On the other hand, such wickets demand heavy lifting from the batters, and Pakistan could do well with an additional hitter in the side, someone who can play aggressively.
Sadaqat likely to get game time in upcoming matches
Sadaqat might have only come in as a cover for the players carrying niggle, but the left-handed batter could get game time in Pakistan’s upcoming matches.
Opener Saim Ayub has been going through a rough patch, and in the last two ODI matches against Sri Lanka and England, he could only score 15 combined runs and failed to even reach the double-digit mark.
His place in the 50-over format is already under threat, and the Pakistan management could take a bold call by including the 21-year-old Sadaqat in the playing XI. The batter provides an X-factor (both with the bat and the ball).
Hence, the Pakistan team could play a punt and replace Ayub with Sadaqat, who provides an aggressive option at the top.
