Australia might consider major changes to their playing XI for the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town, with Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon in line to feature in the series decider.

The three-match series is currently level at 1-1 after Australia suffered an innings and 31-run defeat in Gqeberha.

It is worth noting that Cameron Green has recovered from an abdominal muscle injury and is available for the final Test (as per Cricinfo). Meanwhile, Lyon could return to the side after missing the second Test (CodeSports).

Australia are also considering changes to their batting order, with Matt Renshaw likely to return to the opening position and Nic Maddinson expected to be dropped.

Cameron Green Available For AUS vs SA 3rd Test

Cameron Green is set to return to Australia’s playing XI vs SA in the 3rd Test after recovering from an abdominal muscle tear he suffered during the tour. He has not played since sustaining the injury in the final ODI against South Africa on September 30.

Cameron Green's return would give Australia another all-round option, but he will not be available to bowl in the third Test.

The all-rounder is also ready to adjust his batting position according to the team’s needs. However, he believes that batting at no. 4 or no. 5 would suit him best.

It is important to note that Nic Maddinson is likely to make way for Cameron Green after struggling in the second Test at Gqeberha. In the series so far, Nic has managed just 56 runs in 4 innings at a strike rate of 65.88 and an average of 14.00.

Maddinson's expected exit could lead to changes in Australia’s batting order, with Matt Renshaw likely to move back to the top of the order.

Marnus Labuschagne is expected to retain his place at no. 3 despite. However, Beau Webster’s position is uncertain, with Josh Inglis and Cooper Connolly among the possible replacements.

Nathan Lyon Likely To Replace Scott Boland In AUS vs SA 3rd Test

Nathan Lyon might also return to the Australia's playing XI after missing the second Test. The spinner could be an important option at Newlands, where the pitch is expected to be relatively dry.

His return, however, would mean leaving out one of the team’s four frontline fast bowlers, with Scott Boland being the player to make way.
