The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved its budget for the 2026-27 financial year. Most importantly, the PCB has given the green light for a historic men's Tri-series featuring Pakistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
Notably, the announcement comes shortly after Ireland's impressive T20I series win over India.
The Irish side created history by defeating the reigning T20 World Cup champions 2-0 at the Stormont Cricket Ground, marking the first time Ireland's men's team has beaten the world champions in any format.
Pakistan To Play Historic Tri-Series Against Ireland, Zimbabwe
One of the biggest highlights of the new budget is Pakistan's upcoming tri-series against Ireland and Zimbabwe.
Notably, this will be Pakistan's second Tri-nation series in a short period, as the team is already scheduled to play another ODI Tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England later this year.
According to Geo Super, the decision was approved during the 84th meeting of the PCB Board of Governors, which was chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
During the meeting, the board unanimously approved a surplus budget for the 2026-27 financial year. However, the PCB did not reveal the complete financial details of the budget.
What Are The Major Incentives For Ireland?
According to reports, the approved budget also covers several international tours and series for the Pakistan team. Besides the Tri-series, Ireland will tour Pakistan, where they are expected to play a one-off Test match against the Hosts.
It is important to note that Pakistan have never hosted Ireland in any format, making this a historic occasion for the Irish team.
Firstly, the tour will provide Ireland with a valuable opportunity to gain experience by playing in unfamiliar conditions against a competitive side like Pakistan.
Additionally, facing a Full Member nation away from home will help the players develop their skills and prepare for future international tournaments.
Moreover, the historic series is expected to increase Ireland's visibility in the cricket world. Playing in Pakistan could attract greater attention from fans and sponsors. This series could also provide Ireland with a financial boost.
The PCB is widely regarded as one of the richest boards in the world, and bilateral tours with financially strong boards often generate higher revenues.

Furthermore, Pakistan will welcome Sri Lanka and New Zealand during the same financial year. Sri Lanka are scheduled to play two Test matches and three T20Is in Pakistan. Meanwhile, New Zealand will play two Tests against the Men in Green.
Pakistan will also have a busy overseas schedule. For example, the team will travel to Ireland for a one-off Test before heading to England to play five ODIs and One-off Test. As a result, the national side is expected to have a packed calendar throughout the season.
Women's Team Also Included In PCB’s New Plans
In other news, the PCB has also planned several international assignments for the Pakistan women's team. Firstly, they will host New Zealand for a three-match T20I series. After that, the women's team will travel to the West Indies to play three ODIs and three T20Is.
